I own a 2002 LS with the 3.9. I was wondering if someone can send me a link to a thread or website where there is a good how to on the electric fan conversion. The hydraulic fan is working but its not moving in speed or stopping, its just constantly spinning at a low speed. Does anyone think it would be worth it to fix it or just do the conversion. Thank you in advance for any advice

Yep, that's the correct link.

The hydraulic fan is supposed to spin the entire time that the engine is running, so that part is good. It is most likely that all you need to do to fix yours is to change out the speed actuator. I would do that instead of the conversion, in your case.

My conversion is the all-in method to get the Gen1 cooling system comparable to Gen2. A common aftermarket fan (e.g. Flexalite 180 or 183) is cheaper and simpler, but has drawbacks on the control methods.

Or, the system may just have a minor problem. The actuator on the pump commonly gets clogged due to poor maintenance and wear. Replacing the actuator is a relatively minor job, but may be worth having a dealership do a diagnostic and the replacement in case that is not the root issue.

is this what typically happens to the actuator? the small holes clog w/debris and prevent the change in position? or is it an electrical problem-solenoid failure? just wondering as I've replaced a couple of these.

I had a similar problem in my 01 V6, fan wouldn't kick in high gear plus there was an oil leak right at the actuator. I switched it out, took 20-30 min with a new one and now it works great and no more leak.

I like the hydraulic fan system, works quietly and is effective. Only things i have done was changinge the actuator and the high pressure hose few years ago. That was a b***h and is expensive $271 i think.
