Hey everyone, I have posted here like once or twice when I was considering buying an 00 LS. Well I did, and got it running smoothly after using a lot of valuable information here on the forums.

Well one of the things that was wrong with it when I bought it was the hydraulic fan not working. Well instead of trying to diagnose it and considering that the reservoir for it was cracked I decided to pull the whole setup as it wasn't helping at all and probably was in fact hurting the cooling as its that much more restriction to airflow while the car is moving.

I don't have to drive a far distance to school and work each and I live in a fairly cool climate (the U.P. of Michigan) so I have been driving it like that pretty much everyday and its been fine, except that it recently got warm out again, near 80, and I experienced a mild overheat today. It was actually rather alarming how quick it happened, I was doing some rather aggressive driving and had to stop due to an accident, and I noticed all of a sudden the needle started shooting up rapidly, so I quickly started moving again and got up to about 50 and it went back down, and either as a result or potentially the cause the degas bottle cracked while it was it, already ordered a replacement.

I looked at many of the threads here on the forums regarding electric fan conversions (yes I did search), and I see the popular choices are the flex-a-lite 180 and 183.

I was wondering if there were any other fans that any of you have installed? I am just trying to consider options, I don't really have $300 lying around to buy the 183 right now and considering that it doesn't often get warm here I am not sure I need the industrious of a fan.

All input welcome!

More than ten years ago, I replaced the flex fan on my '63 F-100 (with a 500+ HP FE engine) with a basic electric 'puller'. I probably paid about $50 for it. I control it with a simple on-off toggle switch on the dash, and as you have described, go for days or even weeks and never turn it on. But in stop 'n' go traffic, when the needle starts to climb, a flip and things are good again.

I believe mine is a 'Be-Cool' and probably sells for around $80 now.

Or you could just get stock electric fan off later year LS that drops in and find out how to wire it up.

Amazon.com $250 shipped.

I prefer the 183 because the brakets that come with it are easily modified to fit the LS. The 180 is the same fan with different controller and brackets. I've done the conversion on both my LS's and a few others so if you need any advice PM me or refer to my thread here:http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/showthread.php?t=68306
This thread is the conversion I did on my '00 using the 180. The brackets are ugly but they worked. The 183 is a much cleaner install.

seems to me that $250 is far cheaper than a new engine, not to mention knowing that its fixed right and not having to watch the temp gauge all the time is priceless.

I suppose, $250 wouldn't be bad if I actually had any money ... I guess the solution is to either buy a simple puller or one of the higher end fans. I was just hoping someone else knew of another controlled fan that was a bit cheaper.

Thanks though! Time to go sell a kidney!

I bought an electric fan from advanceautoparts last weekend when I was fixing my tensioner. I pulled out the fan with they hydro stuff along with it. I have been driving it all week with no over heating issues. Cost me $60.

Part number please from AdvanceAutoParts.
