Hey everyone. I have a 2002 lincoln LS v8.
I have replaced my alternator 6 times now.
Last night i had changed my alternator again as well as my battery. I drive home and as soon as i make it to my drive way. It says charging system failure. The car is basically stock. Other than a Bluetooth radio. But my charging problems have been happening since way before then. When i was in my drive way i noticed that if i pressed on the gas all my lights on my dash. Radio. And my interior lights would get brighter. Any ideas?

The first question is did you buy an OEM alternator or aftermarket? If not OEM then that is most likely your problem as the PCM does something different with the Gen 1 one and if not OEM it's missing something that works with the PCM. And most of the aftermarket ones don't have the required stuff that talks with the PCM. I am sure others will chime in here about it but I am almost certain I have read that here quite a few times. I know I am not 100% correct in the way I am saying it but I know you need OEM in this case if at all possible. I see you say that the car is basically stock so I had to clairfy this one part.

Oem always

So what do i need to do for a pcm?
I know I'm being captain obvious ...but a parasitic draw isnt out of the picture here...you'll have to get a multimeter and run down your fuses ...there is YouTube videos how to do a parasitic draw test

If it's really the PCM, then your best bet would be to remove it and send it in for testing/repair.

It could be the wiring between the alternator and the PCM. There are reasonably simple troubleshooting procedures to see if it is.

I assume that these "OEM" alternators are rebuilt. A lot of the rebuilders put the wrong voltage regulator modules in. As was mentioned, the 1st gen LS is an oddball on that.

Have checked the grounds wiresespecially at the battery? And after the alternatot installation get the system tested for proper voltage and current output?
