emission control system light

well the emmision control system light came on today. freaked the hell out of me as it has never happened to me before and I pulled over right of way. I remebered that the light has something to do with fuel and wasn't exactly an emergency thing but why make it look like an engine! anyway I made sure the gas cover was tight, then turned the car off and on but still there...
so has this happened to anyone, is it just the brand of fuel I filled up with? or could be something more serious?. LS02 3.9 48K thanx

What octane did you put in?

Have you had the coils and gasket replaced yet? A catalytic converter could've went bad. Many things could attribute to the CEL. Good luck. You could put tape on it and ignore it, take the dash apart and remove the bulb, take it to Autozone and get a free diagnostic to find the code and try to fix it yourself, or take it to the dealer and be prepared to spend some $$$.

warning about autozone, their PCM readings are usually pretty basic and don't give much of an indication what is going wrong. if it's really bothering you take it to the dealer's for a full diagnostic. if it turns off on its own, more than likely it was just a minor issue but if it's staying on you should get it checked.

no I haven't had anything done,,been running perfect. and it still has been after the light turned on...I still have the fact. warranty, so I'll make an appt.

-I used 93, it was a diffrent brand that I've never used the station before it was part of an seven eleven station. and i'm at 3/4 of the tank now so i guess that might have some possibility of being it..
-just to make sure I'm not damaging anything by driving with this on?..

been meaning to get my LS inspected before i run out of warranty so I guess this just pushes that ahead a little.
