My 2000 Deville runs great most of the time, but on occasion while cruising, the engine will misfire as if the key were switched off and back on. Some times the check engine light will come on and stay on for the rest of the day. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

The best way to find out what's going on is to determine what trouble code was associated with the check engine light. You have the OBD-II computer so I'm not sure if this will work, but if you simultaneously press both the OFF and WARMER button on the climate control panel and hold them for about 4 seconds it may go into diagnostics mode. Otherwise, you can buy a code reader. I believe Wal-Mart is selling them. Make sure you buy the right one with the proper connection. Write the codes down and post them.
