need to replace front and rear mounts on my 96. looks pretty simple, if I knew the best way (bottle, scissor, hydraulic) and place (oil pan, block) to jack the engine.

can I use a block of wood on the oil pan? it looks fairly stout, but the thought still frightens me. is there somewhere else?

surely someone reading here has done this already.. just looking for a few words of wisdom to make sure I do no harm along the way.

thanks in advance!

No... do not jack up the engine from the oil pan.
Look for a spot on the block.

Remove big nuts first, one on each motor mount to cradle. You will need to lower cradle or raise engine. I suggest raising the engine. Raising the engine is pain in the butt because if you look at it hard enough there is no real easy place to strap or chain to. I used a 4x4 across motor at front, I was also changing my water pump so I removed the serpentine belt and placed a ratcheting strap around 4x4 and crankshaft pulley. Then using ratcheting strap jacked up motor enough to get mounts out.
