Would'nt this be a cool idea to add to the Mark? I jut need to figure out how to activate it with some sort of transponder or something. So someone just can't get inside and push the button to start the car. Any ideas how this would work?

Should be simple enough.

There are some alarm systems that will unlock the car when you get close to it. IIRC, mid-late 90's Vettes had something similar.

Then, you'll need one of those remote start key holder boxes, to put one of your keys in it, in order to fool the PCM into thinking the key is in the ignition.

After that, set up a relay system that will activate everything based on the proximity keyfob I spoke of earlier.

That way, by the time you get in, the car will be ready to start at the push of a button.

I'm thinking of something similar, but I want a setup where the car unlocks and starts automatically. Pressing a start button on your alarm keyfob is so... 1990's.

It's called remote start. I press two buttons on my fob, car starts, unlocks the doors, and then resets the alarm. When I get to the car, I press the unlock, put in the key, press the brake, and off I go. It came from Viper.

I know what remote start is, believe it or not. I have a nice 600 dollar Remote start unit in mine.

But that's what so 1990's. Having to PRESS any buttons on a remote keyfob, in order to start your car.

If you life in a hot or cold climate, i can understand the keyfob remote start. But since mine is a garage queen... I don't have to worry about temperature extremes before getting in the car.

i did something similar in my monte carlo. i had the ignition wires re routed to the console, and a keyed lock with a circut put inline with it, and after the key lock, i had the push button. to start the car, you had to have the lock in the unlocked position.

I don't like the idea of having it ready to start anytime you're close. If I'm standing outside my car I don't want my friend sneaking around, getting in, and driving off.

Understandable. However, if that is the kind of company you keep... what can I say?

And there are several ways of getting around that problem. The easiest one is to keep your existing ignition switch. After all, you won't get far with a locked steering wheel. With that said, you have to put the key in the ignition. What is the main thing that prevents you from Shifting into drive? The brake interlock. You have to step on the brake to release the shifter from it's locked position, in order to move it past Park. Most remote start units have this feature built in, and will kill the motor if the ignition key is not in the switch and turned when you step on the brake.

it all depends on what you want. I liked my setup in the mc, cuz i could either lock down the ignition when i wanted or leave the key in, and have it on "quick start" mode. To worry about the car shifting into gear, well thats what the parking brake is for. IMO, it was easiest to just do that.

I meant more of a prank, not someone just driving off and stealing my car. Although one my friends GUESSED my door code, and nothing's missing yet so I suppose I'm safe. :)

Yes most remote starts will kill the motor if you hit the brakes with the key out, the one a previous owner put on my ETC does that (now if I could just figure out what they wired the "option" to.) But if you have to stick the key in anyway I fail to see the point of a button

You know the Lexus LS540? It has a system where by you keep some sort of transmitter or something like that close to your body. When you walk up to the car, you can lift the handle and the car will open. Then without putting in any key, you can just push the start button the vehicle will start. I am searching for a similar system in the aftermarket. Has anyone heard of this?

nothing that fancy that i know of out there as far as aftermarket.
you could hook it up like the ford GT where you have to put the key in the ign and turn it to run then push the button this set up still uses the PATS sys

Lexus LS540? Never heard of that. Mabey the 2006 Lexus LS 430, or the all new Lexus LS 460? I could be wrong....

I never use my door code, I've only memorized it in case I lock the keys in my car. The sticker has been on the inside of the door of my safe since I got the car. He just plain guessed it (after a few tries.) Math has never been a real strong point for me, but there are 5 possibilities each time you press a button, and 5 presses to work with. 5^5=3125, say he's tried it a total of 25 times that means a 1/125 chance he would get it - those aren't bad odds really.

on about the lexus,

Its call smartkey technology our toyota Avalons,Camrys and Prius has it.
the driver and passenger and trunk has a black button that you can press the door to unlock when the key is near, so by just having the key in your pocket you open trunk both doors and start the car

The c6 vettes have a system where you turn the key in the "ON" position, and then hit the button.
