I have washed my engine twice and both times I lost the alternator. Needless to say I have reservations of doing it again. Has anyone else experienced this? what do you do when you wash under the hood? Is it something I'm doing wrong?

I carry a plastic bag so that I can put it over the alternator while I am washing under the hood. OR just simply do not spray water into the alternator. :Beer

Last time I washed my engine I could'nt start it. I almost did'nt make it to the midwest meet in august. NEVER again will I touch my engine with water to clean it. A damp rag with some simple green, and it's good as new.

I have alot of powdercoating so it's important for me to keep it clean. It's the only way to get it that way IMHO.

well i ran the hose over it and the power washer i seem to be ok
but cant get dir off im going to wallmark in couple day gona get the simple green stuff

Thats strange? I always start the engine, let it get to operating teperature, then I simple green it, scrub it up and hose it down not covering anything and I luckily have never had a problem.

I second that, but I cover the alternator with a plastic bag. Simple Green is da shiznit.

This reminds me, it's definently time to wash it again.
