I noticed the 96 Base Mark VIII has a resonator after the 3rd cat which my LSC never had. If I had it removed how much louder would the car be, would it be noticeble at all?

not much louder at all, really. Your car still has the single exhaust, after the cats(base), into 2 1/2" pipe, which turn into 2- 1/4" after the split into 2 mufflers.

I had magnaflows installed, and then 5 months later I had the resonator removed off my 94. I barely noticed a difference. With stock mufflers, you wont notice at all. it might have a slightly beefier sound at WOT, but around town, and below 4000 rpms, you wont notice.

However, most exhaust shops only charge $25.00 to cut it off, and weld in a single piece of pipe. The weight savings alone might make that a justifiable purchase! :)

remove the mufflers for a magnaflow/borla sound, it sounds sweet as hell if you cut the mufflers off.

Do you suggest removing the muffler and the resonator, or just removing the mufflers and leaving the resonator? Here in Florida they don't care what you do to your car, it seems crazy to me we live in the same nation yet things like emissions are sooo different.

If I were you I would get true 2.5 dual with the 3rd cat and resonator removed with a 2 in 2 out muffler instead of an x pipe with straight pipes no other mufflers. I have heard you gain more torque with this setup but have no numbers to give. I still have the stock LSC exhaust piping.

i had the exhaust replaced with a 2.5'' x-pipe from the first two cats to the stock mufflers (dual all the way no third cat or resonater )
at idle it sounds completely stock, and at wot it isn't much louder than stock
a little resonance inside when driving the car below 2000 rpms , its tolerable though

Bro, every shop i go to over here they will not remove my 3rd CAT, i even lied and said it one huge resonator lol. i live in orlando as well, maybe you can tell me of a shop that will do this. i appreicate it thanks.

Fellow Floridian, I actually live a little south of Orlando in Saint Cloud which is right to the east of Kissimmee. They place I go to and everyone else down here is Andy's Muffler, he's been doing exhaust for years, just can't speak english very well. I don't know about Mark VIII's but on my old Z28 Camaro he chopped off the one and only cat, and my friends chevy truck, cut it off. He's pretty good at what he does and is very fair on pricing. On my Camaro I used to have, he put on 3" pipe from the Y-pipe, back to a flowmaster 3" in/ Dual 2.5 out plus tips for 275 which included the muffler. about the same price for everything else he does.

Is that big blob in the middle of my 98 lsc have a cat incorporated into it?And if so will it throw codes if replaced with just an x-pipe? :feedback
