hey there all, was looking for some insight regarding the hydraulic to electric. ive looked at some of the older threads in regards to this job. i just bought a 2002 Gen 1 from a friend, someone told him his pump went out. i didnt check it 1st (my mistake) i just checked his invoice and went from there. after taking the fan, fan motor apart and shroud out and saw the fluid was still good looking. but im going to go ahead and do the swap, i already purchased the gates k06100 (100 5/8) belt. im still searching for a fan. i have access to the aftermarket hayden #3690 but will be searching the junkyards this week for the gen 2 elec fan. what i need to know is with using the shorter belt, how do I "loop" the lines? or if I remove those lines how would i plug whats needed? also is it better to leave the pump or remove it completely? any input or pictures would be appreciated.
 
Remove the pump. Then there's no need to loop the lines. If you dont remove the pump then the shorter belt you just bought is useless.

Ok and what about the cooler side? Where than line comes out from, on the top? And if I were to loop it to keep from taking the pump off how would I do that?
 
Just plug the coil inlet and outlet. Only half of the coil is for the fan pump, its separate from the other half. If you dont want to remove the pump then you just connect the two hoses on the pump together and it will just circulate fluid.

Connecting the hoses together doesn't sound bad. So to do that. Id disconnect the hoses from the center of the fan (motor id assume) anf connect them together. What would I need to do that? What type of piece or adapter would I need and where would the hoses sit then? Zip tie to the shroud?
 
Cut the metal line and slide it into the rubber hose and use a hose clamp. Zip tie it out of the way and done. I would eventually remove the pump.

awesome thanks a ton!, and by eventually, how long is eventually? and remove the whole pump or just take off the pulley and add the new belt? and are there any alternative fan options? i have yet to find one this morning at the wrecking yards... maybe one from a different car?
 
The OEM fans use alot of power. My Flex-A-Lite 183 only uses 18amps. OEM use upwards of 25-30 amps. I have heard a Taurus fan will work but it uses 35amps at full draw (at idle on high speed).

I dont know if you can just remove the pulley from the pump. Its a tight spot in there for a puller.
 
Why worry about looping a line on the cooler? The circuit for the fan pump cooler is separate from the other circuits. Just leave the lines open/disconnected.

i read somewhere on here that you could just remove the pulley. it looks like its possible from my view. what year taurus fan? im pretty decent with electrical systems, im sure i can find a way to not kill the alternator eventually or upgrade it if needed.

If you are leaving the normal belt and still driving the pump, then yes. Otherwise no. What would be the point?

make sense, was just confused for a moment, had a brain fart. but yes i think im going to leave the pump on (for now) and belt as is, and just hold on to the other belt, and find a fan (which after sbout 50 calls seems to be the harder part). then eventually remove the pulley and reroute the belt. the belt was cheap for me, around 16 buckes.
 
Gen 2 fans are regularly on ebay. I aim for used ones under $75.
Then you'll need one of my Gen 2 controller boards. ;)
Just dropping on a gen 2 fan without electronic control modifications is a bad idea. If you don't want to take on that, then go for your preferred aftermarket fan and control mechanism.

Agreed, it seems very unlikely to me that the alternator could keep up with the gen 2 fan running at maximum all the time.

I've yet to find a suitable fan replacent locally :( closest ive found is the hayden #3690 which would require 2 i believe (right over 1,000CFM),or a Murray 36886, what you guys think?
 
Flex-a-lite 183. Used them on 5 different LS's now. They work excellent. About $250 but you get what you pay for. One has been in use now for 5-6 years and 80,000 miles.

Yea don't have that at the moment. And was trying to find something local as well. Tried 2 3700 haydens but they were to big to fit :(
