Finally got my cold air intake from K&N a month after ordering through autoanything.com ! Quick question , i got the FIPK for the 03-05 Thunderbird 3.9l V8 so technically i can just follow the instructions provided with the kit or are there some differences with our engine ? Its the same platform so there shouldn't be any problems right ? Im going to install it myself on the weekend so ill give you guys an update with some pics ! Can't wait for that nice sound everyone talks about ! Im also gonna get my x-pipe installed and take a chance with the muffler delete ! Another quick question , how much should the exhaust work run me ballpark ? So i don't get ripped off ! As soon as everything is installed ill be updating with pics and if i can figure it out some video with audio ! Stay tuned ! Thx for the help guys ! Highly appreciated !

The intake will mount right up without a problem. You use one or two of the bolts from your car so keep that in mind when you think that you're a bolt short. The only bolt I had an issue with was the one that's under/behind the headlight, but that might have been from something I did with my HID install; it was hard for me to reach/get to. Just make sure to install the MAF sensor the right way and follow the directions and you'll be good to go. While it's out it won't hurt to clean it either.

I haven't had exhaust work done but it should be obvious if the price is outrageous to bend and weld some pipe in.

i took my headlight off to use the bolt behind it. made it so much easier cause i couldnt reach it with headlight still there.

i followed the directions exactly, went in like a champ.

two things,

first, make sure that you put the MAF in the pipe in the right direction

and second, check the filter out, a lot of the time they come with too much oil on them, if this is the case, you may want to clean it off and re-oil it lightly.

Its done ! That :q:q:q:qing bolt tell me about it ! I had to get under the car while my ol'man tightened it ! The rest was a breeze ! Ima post some pics tomorrow ! One last question , MAF whats that ? The short tube i had to cut down because it was too long and was folding ! Was that a wise choice ? Its seems to be working fine ! Sounds great ! Thx for the help guys I appreciate it !

MAF = Mass Air Flow Sensor. It's the only electrical thing you should have had to unplug and pull out of your intake and then install into your new one. It's rectangular with a an opening or two in it. There's a special cleaner for it.

You do have to cut one of the vacuum lines that they send with the kit down to the proper length. Besides that, the bolt, putting the MAF in the right way, and tightening everything down, there is really no way to screw it up.

Did you unplug the battery before doing it?

No I cut down a few tubes as well. My evap tube was REALLY long so I cut it to fit a little better instead of bending around itself. Same with the other tube thats kinda near it. Cant remember what tube that is :p

Yeah that bolt behind the headlight is a HUGE PITA. I ended up sort of wedging the hex wrench against a piece of the car and tightened it that way. Man that thing sucked

i had to cut one of the tubes that came with it just so it fit better also. yeah the bolt behind the headlight sucks. i wouldnt have gotten it done without taking the headlight off.

I'll take that bolt behind the headlight over the driver's side, rear, lower bolt on the cop cover anyday though.

I'll take any tough to reach bolt over any other LS issue though. True story.
