Well I have been working on this for awhile, the person I bought my car from decided he didn't want to spend alot on ford replacement HID bulbs and ballasts. So instead he cut the wires and siliconed a 9005 bulb in the lamp.I could not drive this car at night for 2 reasons,1) windshield is completely tinted in 35% tint,2)the wire harness only has 35 watts trying to push a 60 watt bulb :Bang .
i bought a d2r conversion hid kit for $349.00 and made some washers and plates to hold the bulbs in.Wired it to the already cut harness and now I have HID's again. The best part is that instaed of the factory 4300k bulbs I now have 8000k bulbs. I am working on getting some pictures up.

So are you saying that you replaced your HID's on your gen 2 Mark VIII with another set of HID's and that it cost you $349? I just bought an HID from 5-star Ford for $164.

Its a full kit ballasts and bulbs, but it took a lot of work to do.They are not direct fit bulbs. The ballasts and bulbs were missing from my car, the ballast is 500 and the bulbs are 200 each,I figured I would give it a shot, and it actually worked pretty well.I just finished it about ten minutes ago, so I'll have to wait to see if they will stand the test of time

I understand now. I'm curious how much brighter the lights will be. Good luck! :Beer

Which side did you have to replace and how tough was it to do? Did your's have the quick disconnect or did you have to cut and splice? I have to replace my driver's side low beam and I'm a little gun-shy. I posted a step-by-step procedure a while back that I found on another site, but haven't gotten around to ordering the replacement from Max at Five Star and actually doing it myself.

This is a complete aftermarket kit ,new ballasts and different bulbs,my lights were screwed to start with soI had to modify the housings.I took power from the wires going into the oem ballasts to splice the new ballasts in.The guy I bought the car from didn;t want to spend the money for new stuff so he wired in some plain old 9005 bulbs.I used the dr2 kit and had to make an special washer to hold the bulb in the housing, then to seal it off I cut a piece of rubber tire inner tube a bit bigger than the hole in the back of the housing and used industrial double sided tape.It doesn't look truly professional but I now have hid lights(even a different color)for only $299.00 and some time,vs. 500 for the ballasts and 160 each for the bulbs

I did the passenger side. There is a quick disconnect. It's fairly straight-forward. There's a plastic, square-shaped cap you pop off, then there are 3 small screws I believe that hold the bulb in. You may have to remove the battery so you have some room with your screwdriver. I also cut the old line on the burnt HID because the plug would not fit through the place it was routed without more disassembly (which I really did not want to do). When I installed the new one I just didn't route the line through that place. Give yourself an hour or 2 just to be safe. It's tight and a little tricky, but you should manage fine.
