I got a guy who sent his girlfriend a picture claiming to be of him and a buddy in Iraq during Desert Storm. How can I search that .jpg photo on the web to find a match?

Any help would be appreciated as this is my wife's friend and her new boyfriend is a complete poser and I would really like to ownage him.

Thanks.

Pm me his name. I can try and pull him up I would ask for his social but that you wouldn't have. Ask what unit he was in

You could try Google's image search, but it's really doing text searches. You might look at the EXIF tags (in Windows, right-click on the image file and select Properties, then the Details tab) to see if there's anything obviously wrong or find some search terms.

Tekzilla just mentioned http://IDThis.org/ in a recent episode. I've never used it, so I don't know how well it'll work, but you might take a look at it.

post the picture, and what is the name of the pic.

If he wasn't smart enough to change the name of the jpg it can probably be found in very short order.

He changed the name on the file and there is no exif data.

Thanks to the 3 of you for your responses so far. Only way to match it up is by photo comparison as far as I can tell and I don't know if there are any sites capable of that.

Thanks again. If anybody else has any ideas, I'm all ears.

Force open the photo as a text file - then you can see if there is any photoshop data imbedded in the file - date it was changed - and other info in the leader tags. That is usually a good way to start to look for 'problems' with photos.

well if you dont post the pic, we cant search it out...*shruggs*

there stands a chance that we "could" find it, but without anything to compare it to, or base it off of...it's kinda futile.

You might not find anything. It depends on where he got the pic from. Just like Petesweets Bentley photo. I knew it wasn't real and searched the internet every way I could and found nothing. All I had going was some oddities in the pic.

Other than that I agree with foxpaws.

I remember reading a few years back about a guy who was developing an app that would let you upload a picture file, and it would search the internet to find exact matches. Let me look through some folders on my old hard drive and see if I come across it...

Fox,
How do I go about forcing open the photo as a text file? In photoshop, or?

Thanks.

You can send me his name and I will search for it. Not every service member has an e-mail account, but most of them do. I can search all 5 services for him. What branch did he claim to be in?

This happens a lot actually and really pisses me off. I worked very hard to claim the title of Marine, and to have some jack ass poser go to a surplus store and buy his uniform rubs me the wrong way. Yeah he spent a few dollars, but I spent 13 weeks of blood and anguish in a hell unlike any other called Parris Island.

They have no right, and i hope to God I never run into one on the street.
