i am looking to get a new aftermarket headunit for my car. I am looking at the new 2006 line of alpine's and the pioneer premier line. i know that the premier line is a better product but by going with the alpine it will save me some money to do other mods to my car. My question is does anyone know where i can get something to connect to my headuni to still be able to use the factory steering controls? or what do i have to do to keep the controls functional. can anyone that has an aftermarket deck and still has the steering controls functional let me know what model they have and how the installed it.
the second of the mods is where is the best place to buy the chrome b-pillars and the lse grill? is Lskoncepts the best place or ebay or a dealership.
The final question is for dooneybaby. What model are your rims? and can you post some pics of your car with the rims next to it?
thanks,
chris

once u change the radio.. u lose the controls... if u tell me the model number on the radio u want.. maybe i can get u a good price.. as far as parts.. either LSkoncepts.com or the dealer itself... thats on u.. i dont like what i received from ebay.com when i ordered it..

Sorry BanginLS you are incorrect. There is a unit made by PAC that will allow you to retain the stearing wheel controls with an aftermarket unit. For certain Alpine units this is a direct plug into the back of the headunit.... on others it uses the remote's IR freequency to transmit the signal. For Alpine the model is SWI-ALP manufactured by PAC.

a note from the Manufacturer:

Allows the customer to retain the use of their steering wheel or rear seat radio controls when replacing the factory head unit.
Works with Alpine's OEM Steering Remote Ready radios
Retains the use of heater control buttons on GM vehicles
Assigned the buttons on the steering wheel to any of the 8 specific Alpine functions.
The SWI-ALP has non-volatile memory which keeps all programming in memory even if the vehicle battery is disconnected.
Works Directly with the following models CDA-9851,CDA-9853, CDA-9855,CDA-D853,CDA-D855,CDA-D857, DVA-9965 and DVA-9860

Will work with some of the higher end '06 lineup as well.

i agree with Bachelor... i have a Pioneer Avic-N1 and i still have my steering wheel controls... its very sensitive tho, so sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt... i think it has to do with my sensor, who knos...

I have the eclipse avn5495 and my controls still work.the up and down for the cd track and stations changes the radio frequency instead of going to the next station preset.

WOW.. thanks for the info.. i have a kenwood double din..

do they have a kit for the kenwood that I would be able to use?

thanks for the correction.. no need to be sorry..

and I can still prolly get a good price on that radio for ya.. :)
