Flipping the Fuel Cutoff by Using a Scanner?

My 05 LS V8 threw a CEL last night. This morning I run to my storage unit grab my scanner scan it then reset the CEL. All of a sudden the car cranks and wont start. Thanks to this site I went through all the fuses for the pump because I didn't hear it cycling and no dice. Then I read here about the fuel cutoff and I reset it and bam it starts like nothing.

I read that the cutoff switch is activated by accidents and I drive in the city a lot where the roads are pretty rough but it hasn't made the cutoff switch activate. But this morning I didn't go on ANY bumpy roads going to the scanner. So my question is did somehow my scanner possibly pop the fuel cutoff? I want to know so if it's maybe something else I can look into it but if its the scanner I wont worry about it.

And also I know I've read here that the service parking brake thing is just something you learn to live with but how frequent do you guys have it come on? Mine is on almost every day now that it's warming up. I never use the parking brake in the car

The fuel cutoff switch is purely mechanical. It takes a mechanical shock to trigger it.

If you never use hhe parking brake, are you sure it doesn't just need to be set? Where you just apply it so it relearns the position? Have you recently removed the battery? I'm not familiar with the system though

That's why I was wondering about the fuel shutoff. The roads were all smooth and I shut the car off then next thing you know when I try and start it to leave it's not starting then I go through the fuel system stuff and its the cutoff.

I applied it the one time when it went off then turned the brake off and it still said service? Like I said IDK if its supposed to happen this often or not.

Thanks guys

Is it possible that you bumped it when you were plugging in the code scanner?

Code scanner is under the dash in the drivers side wheelwell to the right side. Cutoff is to the left and shielded. But I was kinda feeling around down there feeling for it so maybe that was it?

I wouldn't worry about it. I've heard that the Ford fuel cutoffs in general can occasionally trip themselves for no apparent reason. Just reset it and drive on. If it becomes a problem, like trips more often than you think it should, replace it. Could be worse, at least it's inside the passenger compartment. The old rear wheel drive Cougar/Thunderchickens had the button in the trunk and they had a problem with tripping on potholes. More than one person has had their fuel cutoff trip in the wrong part of town, and had to get out of their cars and open the trunk to get the fuel pump to run again.

Alright thanks. I park in a pretty rough area when I have to work which is alright during the day because people are around watching out but during night no ones there to watch over it so I don't want it to break down and have to sit overnight until I come the next day with parts to fix it.

And I just ordered a new EGR valve to fix the p0108 or whatever code which was what the CEL was for because it came back.
