Fluid Change Recommendations

I'm at the 60,000 mile change for the manual tranmission fluid. Ford recommends Mercon (not Mercon V). Has anyone tried anything else? I'm considering GM Synchromesh Manual Transmission Fluid (Pennzoil product).

Also I know Ford says the differential is filled for life (Ford Synthetic gear oil). While I've never used synthetic rear gear oil I've also nver had a rear gear set last for more than 200,000 miles they always seem to wear out between 180 and 200. So should I be changing the rear fluid and should I buy the Ford fluid or use Mobil One rear gear oil? I doubt I'll be able to find a rear gear with the right ratio at the junk yard if it does crap out 8 years from now.
 
Get amsoil or redline synthetic fluid the ford synthietic fluid are very expensive from ford. I have amsoil synthetic gl-6 diff fluid in my towncar and amsoil universal syn atf fluid in my tranny and my dads fwd continentals tranny as well smoother shifting and very nice fluid. I know they both have manual tranny fluids as well. Any shop can use your own fluid that does the total fluid exchange. I had a pennsoil tell me they couldn't do the 97 conti but they were lying as the connection they use is right up top which monroe used for only $55 bucks. Plus the fluid i bought for them to use. The mechanic said it was maxlife a bit better than plain tranny fluid but nothing close to the amsoil. He did also say that the ford diff fluid didn't know about syn tranny fluid was about $20 a quart in our area at least.
 
I would stick to Amsoil. Motorcraft oil is not that good anymore, so if nothing else do not put Ford fluid back in.
 
I hope thats a joke, saying high horsepower doesn't make it better fluid. Don't they show a lexus on the full synthetic motor oil and like a trans am on the blend? Now who do you think would actually use the car hard enough to really appreciate the benefits of a full synthetic. Also that high hp thing is an advertising campaign they put on their motor oil ont transmission fluids.

I didn't say it didn't make more hp though actually it prevents friction and flows better so it just prevents loss of power. The high-performance label is actually in refrence to the cars its being used on. I use synthetics as the fluid in my car in everything but the anti-freeze. Amsoil atf in the tranny and power steering, redline in the diff valvoline syn-power dot3/4 brake fluid and mobil 1 5w30 engine oil. I also use watter wetter and a 30/70 anti-freeze extended life prestone/distilled watter and I have a electric water pump. Doesn't make power but prevents about 10 RWHP not crank meaning nearly up to 30 at the engine and up to 18-20 rwhp at lower rpms. These figures are from a dynos on several marauders by their owners. Also the mfg of the pump, meziere though gains would be similar on my car since the loss is the same.
 
I drove a brand new Marauder. Didn't really seem to be that quick. Didn't even seem faster then my M7 at the time. I did like the gauges in the pit. It would make a great daily driver. Whats the #'s on one of them?

Well, I guess it was faster then I thought it to be. Well, like I said. I think it would be a great daily driver. Seeing how I thought it was very smooth. Shifts, bumps, etc. . .

i agree, i heard redline does wonders as far as fluids...

Ditto on the positive opinions on Amsoil. I like Amsoil a bit better than Redline although to be fair, I've only used Redline once versus quite a variety of uses and vehicles with Amsoil lubricants.

My other vehicles are 4wd trucks that I bang them offroad, pretty severe service in other words. Amsoil products have eliminated clunky response in differentials, transmission and transfer case applications for me and have increased MPG compared to more common competitors.

Whether you choose to use Amsoil or not, keep their website on your Favorites list. Their vehicle application page is great for OEM specifications for a wide variety of items in addition to cross referencing matching Amsoil lubricants.
