I had a Grand Marquis, and that thing was built like a Panzer. A van side swiped me took out two doors and a fender, and tweaked the b pillar, but destroyed the other guys mini-van. That was a great car
 
My old 98 marquis was a trooper. I would've kept it had it not been for the excessive rust on all 4 fenders and losing my job a while back. She was running great when I sold it last year @ 115k.

I have a 88 crown Vic with 345,165 miles
And still runs strong. I am the 2nd owner and my gma bought it brand new and stick have the window sticker.
I also have a 90 crown Vic with 124,638 miles I'm using for a parts car.
Just because those parts are hard to find and expensive.

Actually, trying to keep them would have been a mistake. The Panthers (Crown Vic/Town Car) died for two reasons:
  1. They can't meet the new Federal safety requirements without a major re-engineering effort; and
  2. the tooling for making them is "well past worn out," so even continuing production as-is (which was not an option) would have required a complete overhaul of the plant.
All evidence of the ten years preceding Mulally's arrival aside, Ford is in business to make money; although the Panthers were profitable, the costs of continuing the BOF sedans didn't offset the costs of keeping them rolling out the door. It sucks, but it was the only smart business decision to be made.
 
Kinda sad how now even INFINITY has a badass RWD luxury Sedan with a v8. Now the only manly ford cars left are the trucks and mustangs.

I'll agreed with you there. I'm sure they'll come back out with them in years to come.
They'll be smaller and better gas mileage.
Just like chevy did with the impala.. But still sucks to see them go.
 
what safety laws was it not hitting
being they were the ONLY car tested for a 75 mph rear end crash
not that that is the only test but what was is failing
