Front defrost won't turn off

I have a 2006 Town Car. When I turn on the forward defrost, it works great. When I try to turn it off, it refuses to turn off unless I turn off the entire climate system.

I'm not sure, though, that the defrost runs the entire time, but I know that the forward defrost light will not turn off unless I turn off the entire climate system.

Any advice about what's wrong?

Sounds like it might be the climate control unit itself, try running a self test on it and see if any codes pop up. I could only find a 98-02 test but it might be the same, worth trying at least http://www.lincolnsonline.com/tech/00311.html
