Anyone know off hand what the torque specs are for the front hub 36mm nut? Did a quick search but just want to confirm. Does 188-254 ft/lb sound correct?

Also does anyone know if the mark viii front dust caps will fit on a mustang front hub? If not ill have to make a run to the parts store or junkyard.

Since you guys are hub swapped, did you reuse your old 36mm nut or did you replace it? There's a link to a lincolnsonline write up that shows the guy chiseling off the "cage nut" and removing 4 small nuts. I was under the impression there was just one solid nut.

All of my cars that have this setup (89 and 97 Cougar, 97 Mark VIII, 00 Grand Marquis, they all have the same exact nut) the factory one was two thin nuts in a cage like is shown being destructively removed. The aftermarket ones are solid one piece with a flange.

They are supposed to be one use only, I am sure others have reused these before and will continue to, but I replaced them.

When I changed the hubs on my 95, it had 4 nuts, orginal setup. New way is one nut with flange. Dealer price for 1 was $20 +. Got mine from Rock around $35, but that was for 5 nuts. I read there a one time use nut, maybe that's why they sell you 5.

It is one nut made from multiple pieces not 4 individual nuts. fords manuals say one time use.
I will use them 2-3 times before replacement.
First time I did hubs on a car I bought new nuts and the master tec at ford said that it was not necessarily needed every time just check there condition.

Cool, well ill inspect it when I remove it and see if it will thread back on and torque down properly again.

Hub Nuts.jpgHere's what came off of my 95 95 book says 236-250 ft lbs

interesting, i did not know that.

mine looked ok, so i reused them. front and rear.
no problems to speak of.

First one to die from non-replaced nuts wins a prize!
