Hey All,
I have a few questions and an idea. I have a 96 LSC / 127,000 I have had the car sense 97 and have taken proper care of her. 1st ?: I started seeing some oil in my drive way. I realized it was the tranny. it's saturated from the front of the trans and works itself back. I'm guessing its the front main seal on the trans. But don't know for sure. The car drives fine, But I have to add fluid every week. Any other ideas what could be causing this?

I'm thinking of just buying a new tranny. I have seen the one on E-Bay for 695.00, Does anyone have any experience with them or any thoughts on it?

Also, is anyone else looking for a new tranny? I have been buying and selling my hole life and even if just one other person might be interested in buying one, I'm sure I could get us a bit of a break. I appreciate any thoughts, answers, comments or questions.

Thanks,

Greg

I need a new tranny as well, but have not yet decided whether to rebuild or try to find a new one. Money's tight and a good deal would be great, although I do not have the means to transfer or install it.

Clean it good at the car wash. Clean it again. Check for leaks the following days to see if it is the seal or the O-ring seal from the dipstick to the tranny. I had PRNDL juice all over my underside, from the exhaust, pan, supports, TC the works. New O-ring and it clean as a whistle. However if your gut says front seal it may very well be. Perhaps a trip to a local tranny shop and puting it on the lift for an inspection may be the best bet here in the winter. It never can hurt to have a "professional" eyeball it with you.

If you should decide to go with the Phoenix transmission (yes, the $695 one on E-Bay), they actually do decent work. I had the tranny replaced through them on a friend's Camry and it still runs great after 34k miles.

place some type of paper underneath and see if its red or black.. red is tranny fliud and black in motor oil. its more then likely you main seal for the motor.............

I thought the same thing when I read the first part of his post, writing that he had an oil leak instead of a tranny fluid leak, but then I realized it was just a typo as the poster talked about having to add fluid every week. Unless he is reading the oil dipstick instead of the transmission level by accident, it is a tranny leak

Hey I Had That Problem At One Time,it Turned Out To Be My Torqu Converter,i Happend To Be That I Had A Hole In The Weld And The Oil Was Seeping Out Of The Front Seal. If You Gonna Open It Up Check Your Welds Before Doing Anything Major Over Spending On A Whole New Unit
And S Well The O Rings And Other Thing Everyone Else Said.
Good Luck!

Thanks for all the advice everyone. Unfortunately I partied a little to much Friday night and haven't taken the time to look yet and hair off the dog bit me last night. I'm not as young as I used to be. I will deal with it on Monday and let you know what I've figured out.

Also, I wrote a post earlier and had some good suggestions but I was wondering if anyone else has an idea. The car will start fine for days. Then I come out to start it and it wont start. I'll let it sit overnight and she will start right up and run for a week and then do it again. It turns over. But it like its not getting gas or fire. Its like it resets itself.

I appreciate the help,

Greg
