Regarding a 1997 Lincoln Mark VIII base ...

1) How do you unbolt the fuel rail so a fuel injector can be replaced ?

2) Can you use dielectric grease on the fuel injector O-ring ?

Your fuel rail should be held in place by 4 bolts (pretty much one on each corner). Once those are removed, gently work the fuel rail up off the injectors (keep in mind the passenger side may be inhibited by the throttle body).

DiElectric grease can be used, but I would suggest just regular old vasoline for that job.

Silicone based lube is better for most o-rings than petroleum based lubes like Vaseline...I know that gas is petroleum based and it depends on the material of the orings, but it is a good rule of thumb.

The fuel injector (Standard Motor Products FJ228) was successfully replaced and the engine appears to be running smoothly now.

However, the "Check Engine" light is still on.

Does that have to be manually cleared ?

Can you clear it without having a scanner ?

I use Vasoline with good results, but I also use Parker-Lube almost extensively. I also use motor oil as lube.

As to the 'CEL'; you will have to manually reset it (with the hand-held). If it comes back after 3 starts, it is a hard fault.
