hey guys. i am new joining the forum but have used you guys for info before. i have a question about a customers car that i have build. he is a member on here but not sure his screen name.
its a 97 mark with th following mods

.020 over teksid block
forged crank
h beam forged rods.
manley flattop forged pistons
stock b heads
livernois springs
crower stage 3 blower grind cams
96-98 cobra intake
procharger P1SC on 10 PSI
3 core intercooler
60# injectors

edit: forgot
built 4r70W trans
FTI billet torque converter
3.73 gears

now for my question. car has a focus pump installed on it which has been working fine but thurs we took it to the track and the rails are going dry at the end of the track causing the car to fall on its face.

i tried turning up the boost a pump but anything over 2 causes it to go into a fail safe mode for circuit over temp.

my question is since the car is still technically a return system and has regulators and return line. can i just remove the FPDM set the computer tune to return style and then turn up the boost a pump? or is the FPDM wired into other moduals?
thanks for any help guys

Just turn that :q:q:q:q off in the tune and hardwired the BAP in... the variable voltage stuff is unnecessary on our cars.... system isn't integral to other modules as far as I know.

Wow, a mechanic that actually does some research instead bs-ing the customer.... here that is unheard of.

Kudos to you.

this is what i thought but i wanted to make sure. i know on the returnless stuff you need it. on the return you dont. but then i have to ask why the hell did ford do both. so i wanted to make sure.

thanks. i know a hell of a lot. but never will know everything. i do not hesitate for one min to ask if i am not sure. thats how we all learn:D

Stock fuel lines?

yes stock fuel lines. should be ok though. they appear to be the same size a mustang line and i have pushed those to right at 600.

this one only makes around 500 so i should be ok.

i REALLY wish they make a nice FORE precision works billit hat that holds two pumps for these cars and has the -8 AN fitting on top like they do for the mustang. thought of making one myself but not sure if the market is there.

Fuel lines are fine for this power level. They have been on other m8s with a lot higher numbers.

What fuel rails are you using ? The stock ones shouldn't be a problem, but might have to update those as well.

60lbs are a good choice as well, as long as you can tune for them (which it seems you can ;))

Has the bucket been modified ?

You're drying out the bucket with that pump and KBAP.

Think 98 Cobra.

thats what i thought. when you say modify i assume you mean drilling holes into it to help it fill faster?

i'l using stock 97 mark rails modified to fit the 96 cobra intake

the PWM circuitry is on the MKVIII, to reduce fuel recirculation. This in turn reduces the amount of vapors being created. Thereby reducing hydrocarbon emissions.

Wow! Just took a look at the build! Frigging sweet.
Where did he get the new canister for the power steering fluid at? I want one! A really chiny one!

there are two companies that make them. canton and moroso. the one on his car is a canton. if i could do it again i would have gone with the moros. the canton comes with a crapy looking almost galvanized looking cap. the moroso one comes with a nice billet aluminium cap that is anodized black. very nice piece:D

next week i am getting rid of the crappy braided hose and going to fabricate a hard pipe and have it chromed or powdercoated. not sure yet

Removing the FPDM works well, better on the cobra pumps vs the focus pump.
If you wanted to keep the FPDM in place you could upgrade the power and ground to 8 gauge and use the original power to trigger a relay to switch the power on. That usually cures the thermal shut down failure.
When the pressure and voltage comes up on the focus pumps they do pull more amps than cobra or GT pumps.
Focus pumps will also blow off at 85psi.
