Gas Gage and DTE

I am new here and have a few questions I have a 1983 Lincoln Mark VI and the gas gage does not work it lights up but just blenks like I am out of gas. The second problem is the DTE display goes off and reads wirerd readings like 5 miles to empty the go off again then show 10 miles to empty. All help is apprecated.

'83?.. . Mark VI? This is a Mark VII forum...
Is there not a Mark VI forum here? Hmmm..

Well, at any rate, I'd say that your problem is in the gas tank float sensor.

The contacts are probably worn or corroded and need to be cleaned or replaced. Good luck finding a replacement for that beast. It may be compatible with some other models though, or if you're handy, improvise what you can. You will, however, have to take the gas tank out to check it...so use care and don't blow yourself up.

Found the problem

I have found the problem with the gas gage and DTE there was a hole in the flote.
