I have an '05 LS V6. I just bought it less than a month ago and was expecting decent gas mileage.. right now im getting less than 20 a gal. Is this the norm? any suggestions on how to improve?

Do a search on gas mileage.. There are acouple of long threads about specifically gas mileage for the LS of all years. But I think the typical numbers avg. to about 18-20 City and 22-25 highway.

Me personally get 19-20 city (stop and go) and 24-26 highway

My 04 v6 gets 18-20 city and 23-25 highway. Depending of course on speed, driving habits, and weather.

11-13?? 15? Those are some REALLY low numbers.. Have those been the avg. since you've boughten your LS? Any major mod's done to the car?

nothing at all done to the car except 20s... and thats how its been since the first week i had the car... i dont drive "ecconomically" but i dont like beat the hell out of it either

20's raise the rolling weight. They obviously weight more then 17s. Have you considered or already changed your plugs, air and fuel filter? I get 16-17 city and 23-25 highway but it was worse before I changed that stuff.

Welcome to the performance Sedan world.

The easiest way to improve your mileage is to lighten up your right foot. BUT you will be lucky to get it over 20.

im not complaining but im still gonna see if i can make it a little higher

Unless he had his speedo recalibrated, there's no way to know what his mileage is. Even with lower profile tires, 20s are going to be significantly larger than the stock 17s, so the car will show fewer miles on the odometer than it has actually gone; this will make the mileage appear lower than it really is.

Good point but not entirely true. The stock 05 v6 comes with 225/55/R16 wheels. If he were to use a 245/30/R20 tire the reading on the odometer would be only 0.2% short (ie for every 100 miles read on the odo he would actually travel 100.2 miles). Now if this is not his tire size then you would be correct and his tires would likely be larger than the stock overall diameter.

I know that tires would be considered in the MPG.. But 11-13??? Come on, there is NO WAY that the tires would cause that much of a MPG difference between 12MPG and what everyone else is getting at ~18MPG...

I know I might be wrong, but as n8bachelor stated, going even from a 16" to a 20" rim would only cause a 0.2 difference.. almost negliable to count

if anyone cares

I just did my third fill-up since I bought my LS: 19.9 mpg
worst was 18.2 (cold snap... lots of idling while scraping off ice)

I drive maybe 60% city 40% highway. Hard to say.

The car computer average mpg always seems to overestimate by about 1 mpg.

Actually most people here that have 20s run 245/35/20s which are about an inch taller than the stock 235/50/17 tire.

yea there is something wrong there. my 2000 v8 gets up to 23 on the highway. and i always keep the fuel display on mpg and it never goes under 20.0.

????!!!!! my 01 LS v8 gets 14 city, and I drive like a grandpa. How do you pull that off?

yea i'm in this same situation, i bought the v6 expecting to get better gas mileage then the v8, but it seems like im getting v8 gas mileage. I drive probably 50/50 highway and city and im very easy on the gas and i get 18.5 mpg. I have 20's that i put on in the summer and those don't seem to even affect my mileage that much, maybe a mpg but thats it. I don't know what to do.

i'm driving a 03 ls8 and get 17/21 on 19" forgeline wheels. tire diameter very close (under 1/4"), but width whise i'm running 8.5front and 9.5rears. change your fuel filter every 2 years and keep your car tuned up with a good air intake flow

guidelines on how to change and where is the fuel filter please! thanks.

Just take off the driver side inner wheel well cover the fuel filter is on the floor pan more or less opposite the foot rest. You'll need the tool to take it off but its cheep and easy to find. The whole process should take less then thirty minuets.
