gas tank vs gas gauge

I need an answer for the following:
1. filled gas tank (19 gls),dash reading 349 miles to empty and gas gauge reads full.
2. take trip and wait until dash reading reads 22 miles to empty and the gas gauge is just above the E mark w/o the low fuel light coming on.
3. fill up and it takes 14.5 gls.
what is wrong, the gas gauge or the computer or the sending unit in the tank? any ideas? :L

I would guess sending unit but what year and when it said 22 miles to empty how manny miles did you put on it.

Mine does things like that too, i usually set my trip on every fill up and drive 300 miles..... I get 19.4 mpg!!!!!!!!!

about 320 miles
As to mpg about 20. 50/50 short and long trips. Lots of hills in upstate NY
