Hello,

My name is Florian, I am from Germany and recently bought a 1997 Lincoln Mark 8 Base.

I have a very weird problem with my gear indicator. It doesn't show the light for 'Park' neither in the cluster nor in the shifter gear indicator. I attached photos for that. As you notice the engine is running but it doesn't light up anything.

Also I noticed that the automatic park brake release doesn't wrk when I shift out of Park. And the cruise control won't disengage when I hit the brake pedal. Is there a relation between this things?

Thank you in advance! :)

This would be the first time I've ever heard of these issues.. Check the wiring to the shift module on the drivers side of the trans

May also be an issue with the Brake Light Switch located on the brake pedal arm .. Do the Brake lights work?

My CTS does this sometimes, the first and last light will work but the others in between won't, sometimes it works perfectly and all of them light up, I tried to take a picture and post it, but of coarse it refused to do it this time! LOL

Thanks for the answers!

I used the search function on several Lincoln forums and this seems to be indeed be a never-seen problem. I'll check the wires at the transmission.

Also took a look at the diagram, but I have trouble reading them. ;-) When I make my blend door thingy I'll check the harness underneath the shift locator lights as well.

My brake lights work - but only the other brake lights. The neon doesn't work at all, the pre-owner took the ballast apart and the third brake lamp doesn't work either. I think the problem is related when the car was rewired to pass German regulations. My turn signals are located in the backup lamps light chamber - of course with Amber lamps to have an Amber turn signal.

They cut the brake on/off switch and rewired it. Right now I don't completely understand what they done, because it's kind of difficult to track back rewiring without information what they done. Hmph... :-(
