Whos installed gears themselves? Would you recommend doing it? Im not talking about swapping pumpkins, I'm thinking opening up the current one and puttin 410s in there.

It's pretty straight forward if you've got the necessary equipment. Although, I'd highly recommend you find a friend who's done it before to guide you if you've never done a gear change yourself.
You'll need a bearing puller to get the pinion bearing off the old pinion gear as you need to install the original shim that was used with the original gears in that particular pumpkin with the new pinion gear. You'll need at least a 10 ton press to press on the new pinion and carrier bearings and the appropriate sleeving to do so. Lastly you will need a dial indicator with appropriate mounting capability to measure the backlash.
Other than the bearings, it's pretty much unbolt the old, bolt in the new. Lastly you'll need to shim the carrier (trading shims from one side to the other) until you get 0.008 to 0.010 inch backlash as measured at the carrier teeth with the carrier bearings fitting very snugly (almost a force fit) into the case.
