Am getting a new system with the XP Media Center 2005 OS.

Anyone had any experiences with this? good / bad / indifferent?

Worthless. Just get regular XP, or wait for the new windows to come out, and then get either snapstream or beyond tv/beyond media. That combo will serve you so much better. Plus, you can choose what kind of components you want in your copmuter that way. Everyone on the HTPC forums will say that is a better choice, and possibly cheaper.

If you want an HTPC, send me what you want and I'll give you the specs of what you need. Should be pretty easy to find a company to put it together for you. I've been building these for about 2 years now, just to let you know.

I've played with media center a bit. What are your plans for it? What do you intend to do with it?

Mostly music, maybe play with videos a little putting camcorder stuff onto DVD's. My major application will probably stay Photoshop. I'm not really into TV on my computer.

I'm not that much into the HTPC thing, just liked the Dell Dimension 9100 setup with the 3GHz P4.

If that's the case, you really don't need media center. I'd stick with XP Professional or XP Home then. I think that Media Center would just cause you additional headaches.

What have you used the Media Center OS for? Music, video, etc. Do you use it to operate your home theater equipment?

If it's jus for music, just get something like realplayer. There's no need to waste money on a new computer for just music playback.

Your right, I'm wasting money on a new computer because I'm tired of my old 1GHz P III running Widows ME, want a bigger hard drive and more memory, a flat screen monitor, and the folks I had build this system for me *^*&% years ago have gone out of business and so cannot honor their warranties.

Soooooooo, I'd like to get something up to date enough to last a few years and leave me a few options for future use without having to reconfigure alot of stuff. Get a little closer to leading edge, having been slipping towards the trailing edge for some time.

I've used XP Home & Pro and am still of the opinion the best OS to come out of Microsoft is Win 98 SE, but time marches on............................ So, what the heck, I'll give Media Center a spin. It would be very hard for it to be any worse than Win ME!
