Gen2 parts v. Gen1 parts

I'm thinking of buying another Mark VIII.
One of the downsides to owning my 96 has been the stand-alone parts and discontinued parts that are simply IMPOSSIBLE to get a hold of. Is it just as 'bad' with replacement parts for 97's and 98's?
