Hey all, my check engine light comes on every once in a while, usually before the car is fully warm. All I have to do is shut the car off and restart - then it goes off and stays off. (1994, stock, 100,500 miles)

1. Will the ECU have the code in memory?

2. Any guesses? Car runs sweet and is getting 18mpg in town.

The code(s) will be in memory

You can get codes read for free at Autozone.

Do yourself a big favor and get your own OBD-1 code reader. I picked one up for $35 at O'Reilly's. It's been worth its weight in gold in diagnosing problems.

I have the same problem on my 93. The CE light comes on when I first start driving, then goes off when it warms up.

I'm willing to bet you'll see lean or rich code(s) come up. That's what mine gives me. Probably time for new O2 Sensors, since you're over 100K. That's at the top of my list of things to do to my car.

Good luck!

definitely check your gas cap and the codes

My '96 did the same thing for months until the light came on and stayed on. The problem was a narrow spot in the flow to the EGR valve that got plugged up. The machanic said that it was a pretty common thing with this engine. Cleaned it out, no more light.
