when you guys put the car in the reverse gear, can you feel the gear going in??
everytime I put the car in reverse I fell the gear going in andt the car kind of gives a little jolt. Is taht normal, or should I get it checked.

I put it in N for a sec and then into R seems to stop it from jolting.

I guess it's normal.
It's my first automatic car, not used to feel the car jolting when changing gears

The Monte Carlo I had prior to my LS did not do this... I assume because it was FWD. My LS does give a little jolt when switching between forward and reverse gears... both directions. Perhaps because of the long drive shaft???? I dont know for sure but it did take a little getting used to.

The "jolt" is the driveline taking up the slack. It's normal.

Yeah, the LS motor (depending if you have a v8) has a lot of torque at a pretty low rpm, rather close to idle. I guess it's just the torque in combination with the driveshaft.

Thanks guys,
I feel more at easy now, I thought there was something wrong with he car.

Hey "KDools", how wide are the rims in your car.
I want to get rims for my car but can't decide what I want, I know I want 18" wheels, however I would like to get a "staggered fitment" with the back wheels being wider than the front.

The wheels 18x8 with a 36mm offset. The tires are 255/45R18 BFGoodrich KDW-2's.

My 04V6 had a recall for a hard reverse shifting issue. They added a additive to the trany fluid. I never experienced the hard reverse shift but had the recall done anyway

Many times a hard clunk into reverse is an indication of a problem. It can be as simple as being low on fluid to as serious as a clutch pack starting to go and has too much clearance. (takes longer to fill...thus the hesitation and clunk) It wouldn't be a bad idea to at least have the fluid level checked and serviced as necessary.

Now that I remember sometimes it does take 2 seconds for the reverse gear to go in. I had a few times put in reverse let go of the brake give gas and only then the reverse gear went in.
I'm going to get it check, it's still under warranty, might as well make good use of it.

Mine will do this if you don't wait for the RPM's to come back down after the initial cold start. It rev's up to somwhere around 3000, then takes a few seconds to come back down between 500 to 1000. If I have time to wait, it feels just like any other automatic I've driven. Just a slight catch.
