Hey everyone I picked up my 93 M8 Today,Drove it home 205 miles with no problems :) Have a couple of questions

1.When I go to take off on hard acceleration it seems like it slaps right into 2nd with no gap,Kind of hard to explain. There is no pause or space in between the gears. It almost shifts hard,Not that bad im just wondering if its normal.

Also When I put it in reverse,Seems like it takes a half second to do so.A little slower then my other cars but it doesnt seem like a big deal.

Lastly,The guy I bought it from put new inner outer tierods,Wheel bearings,Brakes,Alignment, tires and ball joints. The air ride works perfect but I have a terrible rattle coming from the drivers side front and from one wheel in the rear,Its been cold and rainy all day and I just wanted to get home. But these are some things I noticed,He claims the noise is from all the shock absorbers being bad,He was up front about that.Just wondering if anyone has experience with this rattle..I plan on fixing it up completly.Just wondering if anyone here has any suggestions.I am new to mark 8's I have a 7 and I want to read up on all the info here.Any advice will help! Thanks!

Oh BTW it has 138K,and how the heck do I get the headlights to be brighter?LOL There dull as $$#%...

1. You could have bad shocks in the rear. There is a seperate shock absorber and an inflatable air spring. The front, however, is different. You have an "airstrut" on each side, and that single piece of equipment is your strut and spring inside one unit.

2. How do you get the lights brighter? I only know of two really reliable ways to do it. Either purchase brand new HID bulbs from a Ford dealer. These are very expensive and a remarkable improvement over the original design. Or, you can do as I did, and simply install driving lights behind the grill.

I see,The lights are non existant. My volts are good and they look bright but are not effective. So there is no shock absorber up front at all? They dont sink and seem to work like they should.I will have to crawl in the mud tommorow and give it a look see. Thanks for the reply

Did the person before you install any type of shift kit/shift improver? Thats how my car shifts with the trans-go kit that was installed. Was the trans rebuilt at any time? The 93 headlights....just suck peroid. As Calabrio said, HID's are an expensive but effective way of having brighter headlights. Also, you said about the reverse taking a while to engage...I had my trans rebuilt and it does that so im pretty sure its normal.

Yes It seems like a shift kit or something. As far as being rebuilt Im not sure,I dont have the history of it.Im going to go through it tommorrow. If i can get rid of the rattles and that vibration I get Which I think is from a ujoint I will be :)

All non HID MKVIII headlights suck. After a few years, the reflective coating on the inside of the housing burns up. Therefore, there is no reflection of the light energy. This is why the bulbs look bright, but don't shine on the road. I have the same problem on my 96. I fixed it temporarily by swapping the lowbeam pigtail with the high beam pigtail, and then readjusting the lenses to point properly. The only real fix is to purchase new housings.

Could either be a shift kit like was mentioned, a busted 1-2 accumulator spring, or the 1-2 accumulator spring with the lower spring left out. The last one is what I've got in my car, and it barks the tires on the 1-2 shift like an animal.

Could it damage it?Thats my only concern,I like the way it feels and I dont mind it staying that way as long as it doesnt smoke the trans

it most likely WILL toast your trans if the 1-2 springs are busted. only way is to check it out, before you have to dump $1500 on a rebuild! congrats btw.

Alrighty Thanks alot,These accumlator springs are in the valve body when I drop the pan I presume?Doesnt sound too bad to fix
