First time in the LS.

Was on my way home for lunch and was doing 40 in a 35 and started to go down a slight hill and I guess the car picked up speed and there was a cop coming and I did not think I was going fast but I see him whip around and hit his lights and I'm like "great."

I pull over and it turns out to be an older guy which I was happy for that because they are normally nicer than the punks out to prove something. I had my license and reg. already to go when he came up to the window and he asked if I knew why I was pulled and I was like "uh, not sure, was I speeding." I know you should not admit you know why you are being pulled over but I just did not care, I did not think I did anything outragious.

So he goes back to his car and takes forever so I figured for my first time getting pulled I was going to get it. He comes back and says I was doing 17 mph over the limit! I started thinking what the F($% is this guy thinking, there was no way my car would have been in the 50 range. And than he tells me that he is giving a citation and nothing more. I think, if I was going nearly 20 over(speed they say you lose your license) why would I get just a warning?

He said I had a perfect record and I was like duh! But I am not complaining or bitching, just telling my tail. Guy was really nice, but I was surprised that if I was doing what he said I did than why did I not get anything. Thinking he was just bored and figured I was speeding and being a "kid" in a nice car he'd just razzle me a bit.

Sounds like he was going the opposite direction from what you describe. He probably was guessing your speed like you thought, and was bored. You checked out clean so its not worth him writing the ticket, if he doesn't have positive proof. I've had a couple cops comment on my car in the past, I felt like telling them off, but its not worth it. Its a crappy job, I wouldn't want to do it.

20 over?!?!? Oh, man, he should have thrown your butt in the klink and tossed the key into the ocean! :D

Seriously, though, he probably needed to pull you over to meet his quota. I don't know if it's still true, but the Oklahoma Highway Patrol used to have a quota of "contacts" for Troopers. They didn't have to write a certain number tickets, so the Trooper could pull you over for doing, say, 10mph over the limit, tell you to slow it down, then let you go with a warning.

I got a warning for 75 in a 55 on I5 in Oregon. I admitted to 65 and when he asked if I would believe 75, I said it wouldn't surprise me. Every time I have admitted to speeding, I got a warning or a reduced ticket. Like the time the CHPer said he clocked me at 97 in a 65. He wrote 85 on the ticket.

I am a firm believer in admitting to the infraction. He knows I did it. I know I did it.

Your experience is a great example of how far having a good attitude will get you. Some see it as harassment but that what a "good" law enforcement officer will do. Make a LEGAL traffic stop, check someone's info. If your not wanted or have anything wrong then just have a good attitude and most likely you go home happy. Get and attitude and you'll always end up on the losing side. Congrats though.

i got caught with a citation for doing 87 in a 65, and i did not get my license taken away. i actually thought i was going to get a "slap" on the wrist type thing! cause in NYC my cousin is a Detective, and i have his actuall card, and a detective's card. but the cop said to me that i can get them for $10 here. i was like ooook, you can get a card with my cousin's name, cell phone number and precinct! fricking FLA cops, i was cool with him he was cool with me though, i told him i did not feel like i was going 22 mph over the limit cause the ride was so nice it felt like i was going 50... 60 the most i said. he says to me with a smile yeah i have a lincoln continental and i know what you are talking about. but anyway if i was still in NY i most likely would of got a warning, and probably owing my cousin lunch or something. i got pulled over 5 times in NYC i show them my info, and my cousin's cards... they look at it for like 10-15 mins, then they are like "well do not let me see you around here anymore, now get out of here". just becarefull dude, next time you might not get a nice guy!

I was driving back to Idaho a few years ago and was going through southern Utah between Paige and Kanab. It was 6:00 in the morning and it is one very long straight, lonely stretch of highway. I was in my Mark VIII at the time and there wasn't another car on the road. I had the cruise set at 95. After several miles, I see a pick up truck coming at me. Since it's a truck, I don't even slow down. OOPS! It was a sheriff in a truck! He whips around and I pull over before he ever gets to me. I'm dead and I know it. He comes up to my wife's side of the car and says "Do you know I have you clocked at 94 mph?) I was silent for a moment, then looked at him and said..."Yea...that's about what I had too." He gets this incredible shocked look on his face and says "Wow! I don't think I've ever had anyone admit something like that!" It was very funny to see! He takes my credentials back to his car and comes back in a few minutes with a ticket for me to sign. It's written for 75 in a 65. He saved me $200 on my ticket!! He was one heck of a nice guy and I thanked him profusely for his generosity. He just smiled and shook his head and headed back to his truck.

Yea, I'm always nice when pulled over(unless its unwarranted(sp)), I know I said it as my first time but I meant first in the LS and was what I thought would be my first ticket that counted on my license and all that. I just did not see how he said I was 17 over, maybe 7 to 10.

When I had my '88 z24(red) I was pulled over and followed alot. Was pulled and handcuffed because someone w/ the same car(different color and race) did something bad, they were very mean on that one I about sued lol. Got pulled for "going to the speed limit from a stop too fast." I was kind of pissy to the cop on that one, I only put the throttle alittle past the 1/2 way point and shot through the gears making it sound like I was "on it." He said it was "obsessive acceleration." I said it was stupid to waste my time. Than there was the time I was taking my gf home and went into her development and the limit is 25mph and I was doing exactly that and a cop followed me in and next thing I know he is pulling me over. Comes up and asked for the usual, goes back to his car, come back and say I was speeding and I said "Doing 25 in an 25 zone is speeding? Must be my speedo is off." He handed me my stuff and walked back to his car so I dropped the clutch and took off in a rebellious act and went around a corning and got up to 40! Was stupid but I was younger and was sick of the cops and that car, yes it looks somewhat like a mustang 5.0, but its a 2.8L v6 cavalier, just hotter than the base.

Got pulled in my '03 cavalier for a stupid seatbelt violation and got a ticket on that one but no points or anything, just $75 down the hole and no lunch and stuff for a few days(at the time).

But I don't hold anything against them, most are just trying to prove a point, whatever that point is, and usually pick on the younger people and not the ones that actually are breaking the law like about 3 three people that ran the light so to speak as I was sitting there yesterday as the cop was pulling my information(I pulled over right at the stop light, no other good place).

Maybe it's time to invest in a Valentine 1 radar detector. The best $399 I have ever spent. About 90% of my driving is on the interstate so that little extra notification is all that is needed. I don't condone excessive speeding but I do on occasion perform "spirited" driving and my V1 has more than paid for itself numerous times over.

Highly recommended by ME! http://www.valentine1.com/

lol Spirited driving :D very nice way of putting it

If you only got a warning, and the officer did not have RADAR, then I would bet he was making an "Educational Contact" If you attitude was confrontational, he would have written what ever he could prove in Court. If he had RADAR, he was really giving you a break at +17.:)

I highly recommend the V1. it has saved me countless amount of times already and the distance that it ranges is rediculously far.
