Even if they had the navigational skills to make it back to shore from 300 nautical miles at sea (highly doubtful), I'd bet they didn't have enough fuel. Effectively, the Russkies did make them walk the plank.

Of course, that's not quite as good as 10-ringing them. SEALs FTW.
