Ok so the LS strikes again.. I have a 02 LS8 and when backing out of a parking space and i turn my wheel.. either to the left or right I hear a grinding noise.. sounds metallic and plastic.. I don't know exactly how to explain it. It only does it at low speeds. Any clue as to what this is? I have searched the forums over and over and can't find the exact symptons.. Could this be wheel bearing related?

HI ! Well if its only when reversing out a parking spot in low speeds I'm guessing.

Are you sure its coming from the front end? and not the rear brakes perhaps sticking ?

Trying lifting up the front end on jack stands and spin the wheels turning see if you can reproduce the exact sound.

Usually wheel/hub bearings make clicking sounds I thought and you will notice uneven tire wear if the problem persist long enough.

Goodluck !

It has the stock 17" chrome rims... it also does it when the car is stopped and just turning the wheels left or right... kind of a metal grinding squeaking noise

You're going to need to have one person steer to produce the sound while another person is outside of/safely under the car to try to locate where it is coming from. If it does it at a stop I don't see why it would be anything other than a steering component. All vehicles need their steering and suspension components replaced with age and mileage.

Low fluid or bad PS pump? That's more of a groaning noise though. Only thing I could come up with that wasn't previously mentioned.

the grinding noise was the wheel scraping the caliper.. Now my question is what could be the possiblities.. I know the pins are frozen so those are getting replaced is that the only cause? See attached picture

The frozen pins shouldn't be the cause of the interference. You said the wheels are stock. What about the calipers (look stock), rotors, and lug nuts?

Is there any play in the wheel bearing?

lug nuts i assume are stock.. i have never replaced them.. the rotors have been replaced. I will have to check the wheel bearing i hope it is not the problem (or i hope it is) it was just put in 2 months ago.. it is a moog.. so it would probaly be under warranty

The rubber around the caliper pins is degraded, allowing the caliper to float more than normal.
