My driver's side outter door handle! woohoo. this sucks. it busted right under the handle part where it connects to something going into the door. i can see where it broke by lifting the handle and squatting down to see underneath.
how hard to replace?
dealership cost?
body repair shop cost?
just keep getting in through the passenger side to open the driver door?
keep my windows down so that i can just reach in to open my door?
sell the damn car because this is frustrating?

any comments/advice appreciated :D

HAHA! This just happened to my 94 less than a month ago, sucks bad! I was lucky enough to find someone parting out a mark that was the same color as mine for 50 +shipping. I got lucky on that part.

Here's the price that Max at 5 Star Ford quoted me:

PART NUMBER DESC LIST PRICE YOUR DISCOUNTED PRICE
XF3Z-6322405-AA HNDL $36.62 $27.47
F8LZ-6322405-AA KIT $99.22 $74.42
plus ups

Thank You

You'd want the Kit if it broke the shell around the handle. These come primered, and ready to paint.

Hi Maxx

Gotta tell ya the bags I ordered last month did the trick, my boy is keeping his head up now - Good Price, Good Product, On time delivery! THANKS!

Can I bother you with a q on the black trim around the outside of the handle frame?, both of mine are coming off, and you would be surprised at the amount of air that comes in at 75mph! I thought the air was on! Is there a quick way to replace the "seal"? I wann hit that up before winter gets here and freezes everything in the door up!

Again, thanks!

Why are some Mark handles plastic and some cast aluminum?

yeah no kidding.... they need to be stainless steel from the factory!
it'll be harder than shtuff to match my paint on the handle. tri-coat ivory pearlescent... hmmmm.
i'll go to the parts store and get some of that "chrome" paint, at least it'll look better than "primer" hehe. and i have the non-LSC so the chrome will match the trim anyways.
goddamn door handle POS :Bang :Bang

Ummm.

PioneerCrazed is not Max.

yo that door hndle thing just happened to me the other day i told debi about it when it happened i was inbaresed about had to go to the dealer to get it done was like 200 bucks or les i forgot it LOL

DAMN! $200 bones, freckin a$$ rapers. i am going to go to a body shop and get a quote on it, hopfully its less than that. i can only afford MAYBE $120 right now :( or else i'll just be going in through the passenger side and reaching over to open the door for a while :D

there should be a recall on this shtuff. i mean, every freakin Mark VIII's handle breaks at some point, yet i've had cars from 1982,1986,1988,1993 where they have 200k+ miles on them and the handle still is on there strong. this is total BS for what they do to lincoln owners. they NEEDED to be stainless steel from the factory, i mean its not like they were trying to save weight or anything!!!
/rant

Darn! I got a Perfect Pass doorhandle(inner and outer) for 10 bucks but i still have'nt put them on. Its actually not too hard to do it. Me and my dad did it to a car that somebody brought down to his shop.

Yet he won't part with his MarkVIII for nothing, me either! All we can do is savour the madness and enjoy the ride baby.

Cool, we have the same color too tcip, you know I'm like that chrome handle and frame thought....I think I saw those somewhere,...hummm.

Still I will have to get something done with mine, with winter coming on those locks will freeze right up, heck the window too, (I have to park outside at work). If it weren't for auto start, I would not have been able to get in my car last year..., stupid parking lot

Thanks Mike, yup, but it was too late to go edit.

I will have it give it a go on my own, what the heck. I can always do a 911 Post, hey thats an idea!

if anyone has had to replace the black seal around th frame of the doorhandle, can you fill me in?!?

Thanks
Debi

Dude do it yourself! Buy the kit off ebay or MN12 and go in through the inside door panel. It's not easy but it'll save you over $100 in labor. I had a mechanic fix mine and I wish I had done it myself. Taking off the inner door panel is a CINCH! Here's a link for that part. Once you get the panel off and take out the flimsy rubber liner you can see the door handle. Should take 20 minutes max to get the panel off.

Here's detailed instructions:

ok I was totally cool with doing it myself till I saw the drill and metal shavings.......after I came too and went thru the rest of the pics I didn't see any on the trim arund the outside. I did however learn how to take the molding off and fix some sagging getting ready to look ugly

Thanks for the postin the urls Fosten

I aint proud to dumpster dive for my boy.

Thanks, don't think I would have thought to check there.

yeah scrap yards have alot of part for these cars debi couse some pp dont know how to drive and hit us i hate those ppl

Those pics from MN12 performance won't work for a Mark VIII. So unless they sell the Mark door kit separately that's out of the question. Also, it's a lot easier to change on a Mark judging by those pictures from the t-bird. There's no rivets or anything on the Mark.

From the 1994 Mark VIII factory Service Manual:

Handle, Outside Door

Removal and Installation

1. Remove trim panel. Position watershield away from the access holes. Refer to Section 01-05.

2. Disconnect the lock cylinder lever (white) from the lock cylinder rod at the lock cylinder arm (replacement of this lever is recommended).

3. Disconnect outside handle rod at latch assembly by rotating yellow retainer clip and removing threaded rod from clip.

4. Remove two outside handle retainer nuts and remove handle.

5. Remove lock cylinder retainer from outside door handle and remove lock cylinder.

NOTE: New lock cylinder plastic lever MUST be installed after handle and lock cylinder are assembled to door.

6. To install, reverse Removal procedure.

i also want to know about replacing that black cracked plastic surround for the door handle

When mine broke, I ordered the kit from Max($75) and had a local body shop paint to match AND install it for $50. :D

damn this car.... damn it to hell.

i will figure something out. if the alternator and battery didnt go out 2 weeks ago i would have money to do new mufflers, and get this door handle replaced by a PROFESSIONAL.. i dont mind doing mechanical things... but interior and handles and locks with small parts that can get lost easy or anything like that i am not into,,,
thanks for the links though!!!

I know what you mean. I was replacing my ball joint yesterday and I dropped a wrench into my engine compartment. Took me 1/2 hour to get it out.

I went to the Junkyard looking for a doorhandle and Only 1 mark and it was pearlwhite just like mine. saaaweeet It was a nice car too, the body was pretty clean, doors were decent(small dings), Front end was wasted, I kind felt bad, seeing a $35,000 luxury automobile sitting in a junkyard.

Try $43,000.
