Storms last night were short but managed to cause $586 worth of damage to my LSE. It only hailed for a minute or two.My Town Car didn't get a single ding. My wifes truck I have to check when she gets home. My deductable is $500 so its out of pocket. To think I was just about to purchase a tuner and angel eyes. Could of been worse, the guy at Dent Doctor where I always go said one car they had in had 80 dings in the hood alone. BTW I didn't know our hoods and fenders are aluminum.

I have read that if the dents are small a piece of ice or freeze spray can pop it out. You might want to check it out in more detail before trying it tho.

Also some of those paintless dent repair guys charge a flat rate per panel, somethin gunder $100 per panel is the going rate I think.

Good Luck,

Jim Henderson

are you for real ice or freeze spray can pop it out - im going to try that cuz i just got a ding on my door and i would like to save some cash

Dry ice will work wonders on steel panels, as long as the impacts haven't caused the paint to separate from the metal. It doesn't work so well if the ding is sharp, though. The cold causes the steel to contract, drawing it back into alignment with the rest of the panel; I've seen it done, and, even understanding the science behind it, it's a cool sight (no pun intended).

I don't know how well it will work with aluminum panels, though. They're not nearly as malleable/ductile as steel, so they may require actual body work...

i went to the body shop today and asked about the dry ice thing since i got a big dent on my passanger door --the tech said that the dry ice wont work on the aluminum thats on the LS so it will need body work and then he gave me the BIG $400 quote,,,, " UH OH, I BETTER GET MAACO".....

02LSE96LSC91SE84TC, sorry to hear about your damage man, I recently had a ding on my door also and I had to have it repainted.

The doors are metal on the LS, it's only the hood, fenders and the trunk that are aluminium. So the dry ice might have worked on your door Chocolat701.

I'm going to let them fix it Thursday. I ain't going to try anything myself. The Dent Doctor around hear is real good, my first MarkVIII is when I discovered the paintless dent removal. They got rid of some creases and dings and I was amazed. I took my 96LSC there a few days after getting it, did good on that too. Also my brother and a customer of mine have used them with great results. When they're done I'm confident it'll be like it never happened, exept the lack of cash in my wallet. Oh yeah, the wifes truck picked up some damage too, its running like crap right now, she came home today with a CEL, #4 misfire, got to fix that before I decide on if we'll fix it too. I started the week slightly scrapping my front 20 on a curb, then the hail, yesterday I had to dodge a loose tire tread on the freeway, wifes truck is running crappy, what a terrible week.

I have 2 small dents on my LS. One is the size of a half-dollar, the other around the size of a quarter (no paint damage). I got a price fron the dealer to fix, $225. They told me they just call dent wizzard. Does $225 sound like way to much? I have a feeling the dealer marked it way up.

Yeh, thats high. Around here its 85-100 for the 1st dent, then 15-25 each after that. When I had my 1st MarkVIII done I had like 11 creases and dings done for 200. When I had my 96LSC done I had around 20 things fixed for 400 But if you go in for just 1 ding, you'll pay that 1st 85-100. Go straight to the paintless dent removal place if you can.

I just got a small ding on my door and you're saying that if I put a peice of ice on it, it'll pop out? HOw long does that take?

hey i contacted MAACO and they are doing the job for $125 and thas cuz they have to repaint the whole door thats, now thats sounds better than that A$$ that was charging me 400 -- now im going to ask them about the dry ice i just want to know if it will work for us, hell if find anything on how to do it i will try it myself before i take it in on friday, JWKUIPERS that is kinda high but again we really dont know the extent of your damage we dont know if the dent is on a curv or body line wich is expensive since that will almost 100% require body work than a regular flat surface ding wich can be removed more easily and the imperfections can be covered easily to the human eye, now thats what the MAACO tech told me....

Not ice, dry ice, frozen carbon dioxide. (I suppose regular ol' frozen H2O would work, eventually.) Off the top of my head, I don't know where you can get it, but you might ask at the grocery store; it's often used to keep shipments of vegetables and/or frozen goods cold.

It's been a long time since I've seen it done (about 20 years ago), but as I recall, they took the dry ice and rubbed it in a circular pattern around the dent. It didn't take very long, maybe a minute or two, for the dent to pop out.

ok so thats all it takes just the dry ice and rub it in a circular motion do it for 2 to 3 min and then see what happens - well i can do that - i know where to get dry ice in my area so im going to try it - will get pics if of when i do it...
