most egr valves are ok its the egr back psi transducer or DPFE it is on the back of the driver side head when exhaust runs through it it makes the sensor go bad causing the computer to think the egr valve is open auto zone sells egr's to everybody that gets this code (every ford) and they come to the dealer to have us install it and we have them take it back and replace the DPFE and then its fixed. with the new egr the code will come back right away

EGR Backpressure Transducer
Removal and Installation
Remove engine appearance cover, air cleaner outlet tube (9B659) and engine intake air resonator (9F763) as outlined in Section 03-12.
Disconnect fuel charging wiring (9D930) from EGR backpressure transducer.
Disconnect EGR backpressure transducer hoses from EGR backpressure transducer.
Remove EGR backpressure transducer retaining nuts and EGR backpressure transducer from EGR backpressure transducer bracket.
If required, remove EGR backpressure transducer bracket from the LH cylinder head (6049).
To install, reverse Removal procedure. Tighten EGR backpressure transducer bracket bolts to 8-12 Nm (71-106 lb-in). Tighten EGR backpressure transducer retaining nuts to 5-7 Nm (40-61 lb-in).
