Headlight Moisture

Hello, I'm new to the forum and have a technical question regarding my LS.

I have a 2002 Lincoln LS (sports package w/V8) and noticed about 3 months ago the right headlight had moisture in the assembly. Took it to the dealership but they would not cover the cost because the car is no longer under warranty and the extended warranty would not cover. Since then I've have 2 different owners saying they had the same problem but their LS was still covered under warranty and had it fixed. I noticed there is a TSB bulletin (03-16-2) for this problem. What good is knowing there is a TSB bulletin?

Thanks for any feedback.

PS. Love my LS and drive it 200 miles a day and didn't have to replace tires until 78K.

sorry to say - a TSB is not a recall (with must be fixed at the maufacturer's expense reguardless of warranty) - a TSB is repair upon customer complaint under warranty.

swap headlights with the other owners let them go back in with the busted headlights

actually you can fix them yourself.

search teh LS forum for fogged headlight you will be overwhelmed with the number of hits. you will find the steps to do it yourself. This topic was brought up as recent as this week so it shouldnt be hard to find.

- you can fix this yourself very quickly.


1)take the headlamps out
- remove the upper plastic rad cover by removing the four turn plugs
- pull the outside temperature sensor off the plastic rad/bumper cover
- remove the plastic rad/bumper by pulling out the three plugs holding it in
- remove the headlamp by remove the three 8mm screws
- unplug the wiring harness

2)remove all three bulbs
3)use a hair dryer to dry out the moisture
4)if the water has not made the inside messy, simple seal up the edge of the housing using silicon and re-install
5)if you have to take the housing apart to clean the inside of the lens, the pre-heat the oven to 210, remove the three metal clips from the bottom of the housing, bake for 10mins, pull apart
6)clean the inside up
7)push back together, put back into the oven for 10mins and then squeeze it all tight, the re-seal it with silicon.

thers a cheap way to to fix this problem i know on the mak series all you have to do is get the packets in the beef jerky bags ( the lil white packets ) if you put them in the assembly they will do the trick depending where you live will determine the length of time it will work i live in tx i get about 6 months out of it i know it a lil getto but it works pretty damn good
