I searched and could not find this in any threads.
Inside the headlight housing there is a piece that covers the bulb on the main headlamp, it looks like it is held in with a single rivot.
Is there any problem with removing that piece (do not know the name of this part)?
Why is it there and what is this piece for?

It's held in place with a single screw. I think it is there to shield your headlights from blinding everyone. I removed mine when I did my projector retrofit.

correct - at a certain rating and above - the end of the bulb must be covered from direct view.

The bulbs i bought for my LS had silver paint on the tip doesnt this do the same thing? I want to take those little cover soff my light wahen i do angel eyes anyways but i dont want to be illegal.

Eventhough this may be illegal, does this light up the highway any better??

What officer do you know that is aware of this law? I myself don't have to worry bout car inspections in IA.

Does anyone know if this these types of bulbs will pass or work?

the paint tip is for the same thing.

I am not sure if modifying the stock headlight (which passed DOT) will still pass with those bulbs - but you would have to find someoone really, really picky to find that.

I am pretty sure the bulbs you are referring to are for your highbeams not your lowbeams, there is a difference in the two, one has the silver tip the other doesn't. as for inspections or the police pulling you over it depends on the area you live, but if you do alot of driving at night you will probably get flashed alot which may or may not bother you.

Thanks for the answers.... Scratch that idea.... I do not want to blind anyone, or to cause an accident!
