Headlights on E-Bay

Exactly. I am waiting on a price from Torrie on these again, just so I have an update on price and availability.

I still dont see how a 22mm capsule will fit into a 20mm fixture without moving it too far back and screwing with the focal point.

I am having an HID intermitenly go out. I will keep an eye on the auction, but the price seems a little steep...

Torrie from FastPartsNetwork.com will have new OEM Ford HID capsules in next week. So if your looking to buy OEM you can.

Do you have a price on these?

No, he has yet to give me pricing info. I asked, but he did not respond, only saying they will be in next week. I will ask again.

Personally, if I had HIDs I would want to go OEM for as long as possible, only beacause any conversion will still be costly. These capsules also last a very long time, typically 5+ years. In that time the Mark VIII community will have had more time to "experiment" with alternatives that may prove cheaper and safer.

Why the hell are these so expensive, I understand they are Hids, but you could practically buy some dang acura tl assemblies and retrofit them to a mark. thats just crazy. 600.00, thats like a 1/3 of the value of the car. Thats like me buying 4000 dollar wheels for my car. I understand we love our cars and many of us want the best, (look at me, I have spent way too much money on my car), but that just isnt fair. I am in no way downing anybody or there preference, but I wish there was more competition for these types of items.

I agree. Worst case scenario one would spend $90 on regular bulbs before a HID burns out. Thats a huge price difference.

We can get technical here. But in short Mark HIDs are DC, not AC like the rest or the HIDs are. So that alone makes these unique. You can not put an AC ballast on a HID designed for DC and vise versa. Its a real pain. But why is the Mark that way? Who the heck knows. The Mark may have been the first with HIDs produced in the US but HIDs were not exactly new when the Mark VIII came out in 95 with these. There was already a market of AC HIDs out there. But that market was VERY small. Sure HIDs now are pretty darn common, but at the time HIDs were new. I think it was just a matter of cutting costs for Ford by going with DC. I dont know how, but thats the only reason I can think of. Maybe there was a regulations issue too, who knows. But Ford lost there bet or whatever and now we pay the price! We can beat the subject to death, but in the end there is nothing to complain about because nothing can be done! Buy OEM or convert and hope the results work.

I have seen many people customizing their own lights, I myself for one. But hasnt any of the mark owners, bought an hid kit, wires, ballast, and bulbs and installed them on their own lights? Is this more expensive, or is it impossible to work with the mark headlight?

its possible but i would prefer the HID housings due to being designed properly to directing the light.

Ya, its hard to explain but the halogen housing will not direct the light correctly for a hid. A HID has one intense "spot" of light, if you look at a capsule you will see why its called a capsule. A halogen light has a rather long filament and therefore a "long" source of light. What would happen is a HID bulb in a halogen lens would get all out of focus.

But I happen to have an all but new halogen housing hand. Now all I need is a HID capsule and ballast and I will do some modifications to see if the logic and math are right or wrong! Nothing to loose.

I have been thinking of taking a t-bird low beam harness and adapting it onto my 97 Mark. I would essentially remove all the stock HID components, and go back down to the power wire and ground. convert it to a single filiment standard bulb from a T-bird. Then go out and buy an HID kit for a T-bird and adapt it to work in the Lincoln housing. Well this is my plan if no stock bulbs are avail. Does anyone see any flaws in this? I just want to get my damn lights fixed.
