I have tryed two control units now and end up with the same problem.

at 60 degrees hot air comes out no matter what degrees I set it to its very hot air.

Is this a problem with my AC unit or something smaller? any ideas?

If it's a gen I the it's the blend door actuator motor that is bad, Gen II then the blend door arm is bad.

Blend Door

I did the self test and indeed it seems to be those blend doors. I have read in another forum that you can get this part with a fix from someone anyone know about this? And I would need the DIY instructions too.

also have a problem with the AC Control and its lights replaced bulbs and still its very weak on one side and some are not lid at all. checked connector is fine from what I can tell.

Thanks for all your help.

Blend Door

Mine is a 1994 - 95 model. so I guess thats Gen I

these are links for a 97 - 98 mark VIII

unless its still the same in the 94.

Any ideas on the lights to get them fixed? on the control unit?

The problem then is the blend door actuator motor which is behind the display above the keyboard. You want to follow the instructions for removing the dash, but then you will want to remove the display itself. 2 of the small bolts are accessible by going through the glovebox with the dash pulled back a few inches, the other 2 through the hole where the display was. The plastic gears strip out inside the unit causing it to fail, and a new unit is around $60 from the dealer. I am guessing I am the only one on the board who has actually replaced this on a gen I, it's not a common failure. If you have any more questions about replacing it, let me know. It's about a 4 hour job tops from start to finish:

step by step

do you know if there's a step by step instruction on how to do this safely.

Also do u know if I can modify this part so that it won't happen again like for the mark viii 97 98.

You don't need to modify the part, it has been updated from Ford to correct this problem. It is not a hard job, just time consuming if you have never done it before, but it is strictly a hand tool deal. Once you reach it there are only 4 small bolts and a plug to remove. You will have the satisfaction of saving $600 or so that a mechanic would want for the job.

Step By Step

Ok I will try my best. And yes I will be happy to pull this one off and saving those 600$ maybe use that money towards the wing :) .. finally. so many things gone wrong with my mark lately. :(

Seems like that doesn't it. Take your time and enjoy the work. Just remember to plug the new door in before you put the dash back.

Hey everyone with blend door issues, if your car is a Gen I, there are no more available anywhere by Ford. Five Star only has Gen II blend doors available.

I bought mine at the local Lincoln dealer a year ago, it would be ashame if they were no longer available.
