Well today me and a bunch of friends went out to the ski hill for the day, and what better way to enjoy the drive back than with the heated seat on. Well i turned it on, didnt really warm up too much before it turned off, so i turned it on again, went for a bit and noticed it shut off again. I went to hit the button and nothing, tried ac nothing. So i got my passenger to try his seat and it was working fine. Since his worked im assuming it isnt something like a fuse, anyone have any ideas what it could be? We still have a few months of winter and the heated seats definately help.

FORD seat heating pads are notorious for burning out.

I don't think that's it in this case.

The Aviator has a different system for the heated seat then the typical filament in the cushion. The system uses a fan to suck air from the cabin into a Peltier heater/cooler which adjusts the temperature. The adjusted air (hot or cold) is blown into passages inside the seat cushion and ultimetly out of the perferations. The Peltier unit is in the seat back like the LS I believe. The fan is located underneath the seat. Some other plastic ducting inside the seat hook everything up.

One likely problem you are having is a clogged air filter. The small fan underneath the seat actaully has its own dedicated small air filter so particles aren't entering the system. This is removable and serviceable.

You should be able to hear the fan when you turn on hot or cold. Higher setting makes the fan spin loader/faster. Do you hear the fan try to spin at all?

I'll try to think of some more ideas if you are around to reply. Good luck.

Well i just tried it out again last night and it works fine again now. But im gonna see about getting some new filters for the seats. Im assuming its a dealer only kind of part.

I'm sure you can get it from the usual suspects: Team Ford, Fast Parts Network, etc.

You should be able to service it yourself if you're into that. I have the service manual so I can get the steps for you if you want. Give me a holler, I'll check back soon.

Ya id definately just do it myself, I can do most things myself so no point paying a dealer for it, and according to the owners manual it doesnt look that hard to do.
