I need some computer help. My 2k system has taken a crap on me and of course I haven't backed it up in like a year. The issue is mainly that I can't get it to boot, it wont even give me the option to go into safe mode and try to get rid of what killed it, which was an updated driver for a DVD burner which has been acting ghetto lately.

So heres what I'm trying to do. I want to back up some of my documents and new music onto a machine that runs XP. I connected the 2k hard drive to the XP machine and set it as the primary slave disk, which the bios on the XP machine recognizes as exactly that. But XP won't boot with the new HD connected. It wont even go into safe mode.
Ive done this before with other computers, connected new hard drives with a different operating system to another machine as a secondary drive, and was able to move files from one disk to the other with no trouble. Why the hell wont it work with XP? I there anything I can do to make this work? Please help!

Here's what I would look for

1. Make sure that hard drive with xp on it is set on Master. From the factory they are usually set on CS(Cable select)

2. Check the bios and make sure that the hard drive with xp on it is first to boot. Cause if its not it could cause problems

Thats all Ican think of for now

Did that. By it wont boot I mean I get the black screen with the blue scrolling line under the big XP and it sits there, and sits there, and sits there. It won't go past that point of the boot process for some reason. Which makes me think it is just XP being ghey.

Sounds like the drive is shot to me
I would set to cable select and try again.

go to pcguide.com and you'll never have to resort to a lincoln website again :D they're great and everyone likes to help out someone in need

Ill remember that next time. I have found a solution though it was not the original idea. Gonna borrow an old drive from a friend, wipe it clean, install 2k so I can have a GUI to operate on, and copy my files onto that one. Then Ill start effin with mine.
