Hey. I drive an '03 Lincoln LS V8, and my wife has an '08 Lincoln MKX Elite. We both come from loyal Ford families and have been very blessed with these two nice cars.

I found this site while searching for some ideas on what some troublecodes for my LS are telling me. I will post that discussion in the LS forums as well, but just so I can get them in front of as may folks as possible who may be able to help.

They are consistently 2107 and 2110, but I have also gotten 2104 and 2112 twice now. I have a code scanner and clear them after each trip. This started a little over a week ago with a code 356, showing a failing coil 6. The day before replacing the coil, the car went into ETC failsafe and also threw the 2107 and 2110 codes. I figured that was related to the coil failing. I then replaced coil 6, and I decided to replace the spark plugs while I was at it. The shop was out of Motorcraft iridiums at the time, so I picked up NGK iridiums.

When I started the car after replacing the coil and plugs, I had the smoothest idle I had had in years. That miss seemed gone and things were fine. I decided to take a neighbor to lunch and no less than 1 mile down the road, the motor stuttered horribly a few times, then went into ETC failsafe again. I do the old bit of shutting the car off and starting it over again and it will run ok for a minute or two, but it inevitably goes into failsafe soon thereafter. Over this 4 mile trip, it happened 7 times. My wife has been out of town this week so I have had to just drive like this right now and I hate it. It's unsafe.

I have done some research and some have said it is the TPS, others MAF. I have the benefir of working at an auto parts house, so I have tried both of those... no dice. I noticed no difference at all with the new TPS and MAF installed, so I put my stock units back in. It seems that the problem is worse when the engine reaches operating temp. Also, when I use manu-matic mode and keep it in a low gear to keep the motor spinning it seems that it doesn't go into ETC failsafe as much. It's when I have to stop that the turd dies.

I wonder if I just have more coils failing. I have had the valve cover gasket fix done, and I don't have a drop of oil in there any more. Actually I was very impressed at how clean things were in there since the 30,000 miles ago when I had the job done. We also replaced 4 or 5 coils at that time.

What am I looking at guys? Have any of you experienced similar issues, and what was your fix?
Thanks very much!!
