I have a 96 Mark viii that I turned into a chump car race car last year. I cannot get the alternator to charge for me. It is a gutted race car so lots of the wiring has been modified. I know my alternator is good I just need to know what each wire on the plug goes to. I traced one wire from the plug back to the alternator fuse under the hood. Im guessing that is the field wire to tell the voltage regulator what voltage the battery is at? Can someone tell me what the other two wires on the plug are? Any other ideas why my alternator isn't charging?

THANKS!

You don't have an instrument cluster, correct?

You need to either put in a light bulb or a resistor, I am trying to remember what wires I did this to, I drove my 89 Cougar without a cluster for quite awhile because of the silly wiring board on it breaking.

Pretty sure what you need to do is add a 500 ohm resistor between I wire and a switched (powered when in run) 12v source.

Correct no cluster. So what I currently have is a switched 12v source wire going to the far left prong on the alternator. I have the other two prongs on the alternator to account for. Do you know what prong on the alternator would get the 12v switched power with 500ohm resistor?

Sorry Im not good with electrical lol
