Today while getting on the freeway the damn V6 blew a radiator hose.
It looked to be a 90 degree hose that ran from the water pump into the block, had a nice 1 inch slice in it.
Anyone know of any special procedures for filling the cooling system? Also will I be able to get the check engine light to go off just by disconnecting the battery once it's fixed?
Any help would be appreciated.

Can you spot the blow-out?

damn that sucks. hopefully it holds together until you sell it

the car. hopefully this isnt a start of bad things. (knock on wood)

Same thing happend to me, but on the track at Waterford Hills. As long as you didn't run the engine without any coolant it should be fine. It's a relatively easy hose to replace. the refill does take a while because of the purging of air in the system, allow yourself at least a half hour after you get it up to temperature to get it totally purged.

Tore into it today and decide to check the purge valves. The on on the top radiator hose was just sitting in there. There was no threads on the bottom of it. Don't know how it stayed it there for so long. It looked like someone burned the plastic threads right below the o-ring or something.

This was a known problem. The new hose is reinforced at the 90º bend. Mine blew at ~55K miles and it was one of the few things not covered by my Ford ESP. I had the thermostat replaced while they were there. IIRC, my total cost was about $140.

59,000 miles
That damn hose cost $46.00. I guess they have to make an extremely good living.

Well, there was the coolant and thermostat too.

i wouldnt complain...59000 miles is like 3-4 yrs of driving....which is the life of all hoses re-inforced or not.

46 bucks seems pretty cheap to me for something that can be replaced in 10 mins. with a screwdriver.

you could always sell it and go cadillac or lexus...wa ha :B

I might be cheap to all the rich people. I could go buy a regular rad. hose and cut the 90 out of it for half that.
I owned a caddy, bad luck with it. Never own one again.

yea...know what ya mean....

GM makes crap. alotta problems with their engines and trannys.

I like Ford, my mother owns a expedition--and ive owned a escort once long ago. there are a surplus of parts to replace with mods or even just a surplus of ford dealerships to have repairs done. No major problems with any ford designs on engine or trans. (the most expensive to replace by the way). --GM seems the complete reversal on every point mentioned.

Still, i havent driven a Lincoln yet so I have no comparison on the luxury to cadillac. I do know caddy is an excellent ride and i do alot of highway driving. I still hate my northstar, which is even now plagued with head gasket problems. I had it replaced and it still empties its reseivor tank and runs up to 235 degrees when at stopped idle speeds. But the streamlined look of the 93 box shape reminds me of my old 72 Monaco. If i could ever fig. out what engine to put in with the matching trans. instead of a Nstar, I'd be happy as a clam.:D

Got her fixed! But I have to order the upper hose because of the messed-up bleed valve. Can't just buy the bleed valve, gotta buy the whole hose ($170.00 by the way). Good to be an LVC gold member $100.00 through Maxx @ 5 star ford.
