I have done a search but everything I have read is for the first gen cars,my 97 is kinda acting funny and could use some help. When I drive it hard everything seems to be ok,but if I drive it relaxed it does some weird stuff in 3rd and o/d. The carseems to hunt/and slip in the gear that its in.When cruising under light throttle in o/d the car seems to slip a little i can watch the revs only rise about 400-500 rpm,it seems like it is going in and out gear.Is it tranny time or possibly shiftkit/chip time? Thanks in advance for any
help.It only seems to do it right after it shifts into gear ,after it does it it won't do it again until another shift.

i would get the tranny flushed and then have the fillter changed first see if that works

very common. It's the torque converter locking and unlocking. This is also why Mercon V was developed. do a search to read up on why Mercon V was introduced to elleviate the stress on the frictional material/TC issues.

Furthermore, the factory TC lock-up schedule is way to low(37mph). It feels alot like shifting a manual tranny into 5th gear at such a low speed.

many use SCT programming/ECU flashers/etc to correct this absurd setting.

ideally, a wide ratio 4-speed A/T like ours should keep the TC unlocked until 50 mph.

Now wait a minute, Craig. I talked to my mechanic and he flatly refused to flush my transmission; said it would ruin it b/c it's too old. He also said that I need a new tc. Now you're saying that it's ok to flush it and that I need to reprogram something? Are you sure this isn't an O2 sensor issue?
