Hey everyone, I was installing a remote start on my 04 and one wire grounded itself from the ignition cylinder (12 Volt Constant) and now my dash wont light up or anything. My e-brake is on and wont release either. The car is not seeing any power at all when turning the key in the ignition. I check what I though was all the fuses but they seem fine. Can anyone please help out. What to look for etc.. Thank a ton. My car is also 1/2 way out of my garage and now my e-brake is locked up too, so I cant move it. This blows, but its my dumb fault.

first thing, check all ignition related fuses...

Thanks Ancient!! I totally forgot about the fuses in the trunk. I searched for every ignition fuse but couldnt find one until I saw it in the trunk in the owners manual. I feel really stupid now, but at least now she wont have to be towed into the dealer over something so simple. Replaced the 20A fuse and it started right away. Awesome!!

Some simple fuse can cause so much headache..

You are not kidding. I was going crazy. I was about ot take off my whole cold air intake and I had no way to re-program the car back to stock to get the rid of the XCAL tune. It would have been a very bad day for me, they would have easily voided my waranty on my 04 with 5K miles.

BTW, when you're working on the electrical systems on these cars (or any car).....
UNHOOK THE BATTERY!!!!

I've seen quite a few posts about grounding a wire. I remember one in particular where the dealer couldn't fix it and suggested buying a new car.....

So......UNHOOK THE BATTERY!!!!!

I think I remember a thread about removing the dash cluster. If you don't disconnect the battery prior to removal, you can't start the car when you put it together and have to have it towed to the dealership to have something flashed. Can anyone remember the particulars of that?

OOH, that sounds particularly nasty......Kind of reminds me of Windows XP. If you change too many major hardware components, it won't boot and has to be relicensed by Microsoft.

That shouldnt be the case, I have removed the cluster many times with the battery disconnected. Its that you cant put another cluster in the car w/o the PCM being re-flashed. The PCM stores the code of the cluster in it so when the car starts the codes have to match or the car wont start. The only way around this is to re-flash the PCM with a NGS diagnostic machine. I have one and it was very expensive.

Right! You said the battery was disconnected when you changed them. There was a thread here...and Quik LS was the one who pointed it out I believe...that if you remove the cluster and reinstall it WITHOUT disconnecting the battery, it won't start.
