This comes up every so often. There are no sealed car batteries. They don't exist. The OEM batteries vent via a tube that connects to them. The Optima batteries are not sealed, they too have a vent. You can see it on top of the battery. The way that a lead acid battery works makes it impossible to seal.

All that said, is it a great danger to use a non-oem battery? Only every great once in a while.

right off optima's web sight

"OPTIMA batteries even has safety in mind - with its completely sealed case it helps to ensure the safety of you, your family and the environment."

if they were vents on the top, you would not be able to mount them on there side or upsidedown.

Optima most defiantly has two resealable pressure relief valves on the top to vent pressure of gases that can happen from overcharging, has nothing to due with spilling out contents.

It can vent hydrogen gas, very explosive, think Hindenburg zeppelin.

Look closely at the pictures of the batteries, or at some actual batteries in a store. There are two vents (covered is something like felt) on the top of each battery. Optima says they won't vent under "normal" circumstances (but then neither will most normal batteries). They will vent if overcharged, or during a very high current discharge. This is why even Optima warns the user not to charge the battery in an unventilated space (like a trunk). Again, this is just an unavoidable feature of the technology. If they didn't allow it to vent during overcharge, over discharge, or short circuit, the only alternative left would be for the battery case to explode. When the hydrogen is released, it has to go somewhere, and the volume of the case is not enough.

I got a Yellow Top in my car. Was in it when I bought it.

I had to replace my battery last winter, my local canadian tire didn't have one listed for my 03, but they had one listed for a 00, it's the same size and everything, maybe you should inquire about a battery listing for a 00 might get what you need.
